philosopher Matshona Dhliwayo. He’s a writer of many books on what wise mothers want their son to know, lessons that great men wants you to know, and so forth. Theres a quote written by him that says you are no richer than what you carry in your mind,
Stuck with me
Advocate for – change
Changemaker is someone who want to advance development for general good of the all
Entrepreneur is someone who is usually associated with creating, launching and managing an enterprise.
Both allude to addressing a social purpose or challenge
Now the sdgs or sustainable development goals are also addressing social purpose or challenge
They aim to transform out world in a way that is sustainable for generations to come.
Which goal do consider to be the most sustainable and outreaching out of the 17. it’s a hard choice. But its also simple.
What makes people do things, what enables them to overcome their social challenges, their personal challenges, their situational challenges, their spiritual challenges
It is education, not just any – quality education
Quality education – not just skills, but gender parity, school infrastures, equipment, materuals and resources, scholarships, teaching force
Why its important is because it also impacts on the other sdgs in one way or another – it builds the minds of the future who would continue to think and build on overcoming the challenges presented by other SDGs
Education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is a key to escaping poverty as it develops practical skills and applied knowledge to enable autonomy in managing their own lives and ability to earn income (Global Education Monitoring Report Team, 2018; Perritano & van Dijk, 2016; Sustainable Development Goals, n.d.; Symaco & Brock, 2014).
Education escapes the intertwined cycle between hunger and malnutrition, and poverty as it facilitates access to greater resources such as job opportunities and security, and work safety and consistency.
Job stability increases access to household resources such as food security (Symaco & Brock, 2014). Education can create more physicians and health specialists to meet the demands of their communities and save the lives of millions more people. It improves health and wellbeing through decreasing social isolation and increasing healthcare awareness, and equitable access (Gakidou, Cowling, Lozano, & Murray, 2010; Marmot, Friel, Bell, Houweling, & Taylor, 2008). Education encourages enhancements in scientific research, upgraded technological capabilities of industrial sectors, and innovation. Schools as community infrastructures catalyse social progress (Global Educaion Monitoring Report Team, 2018). With investment in infrastructure education participation also increases as evident in Filipino typhoon-resistant schools (Cas, 2016). Upgrading the education infrastructure addresses the digital divide or the gap between under-connected and highly digitalized countries. Ensuring that the basic requirements of access to education is fulfilled ensures elimination of disparities between gender, the vulnerable, including people with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations (Friedman, et al., 2020; Global Educaion Monitoring Report Team, 2018). The disclosed GRI indicator 108-8, “Information on employees and other workers” demonstrate HEI contribution towards reduced inequalities.

Achieving quality education benefits stakeholders in all communities. As a current tertiary student who has formerly undertaken pre, primary, and secondary schooling, I understand first-hand the importance and benefits of quality education provides. Even more so when compared to the issues faced by family members who lacked the access to education from financial, economic and situational factors. Living in a first-world country, I have had the advantage of free or subsidised pre to secondary education. Education provides essential life skills and Inclusive and equitable quality education ensures that others also receive these lifelong opportunities and alleviate the detriments faced in other SDGs.
Quality education fosters the new generation of changemakers and entrepreneurs in addressing social purposes and challenges.
