2. The hateful eight
Purpose:
The purpose of this poster is to
promote its release in cinemas. It
shows the director, who stars in it,
credits at the bottom and a
tagline.
Colours:
The colours used are dim, mostly
white and black. The whited-out
poster makes thing unclear in the
picture and creates mystery.
Key image:
The image is of a snow covered
forest with people walking toward
a cabin. They are all walking in the
same direction and armed but are
fairly separated which shows me
they don’t trust each other.
The clothes they are wearing
suggest that the film is based in
the past most likely western times.
Back ground:
The background is not clear
because of the snow which makes
it look like there is a storm.
However it is clear enough to see
the cabin and surrounding trees
so we know where the film takes
place.
3. The Hateful Eight
Realism:
This poster is realistic and looks
like a photo but the background is
edited. This suggests that the fil is
realistic and has little effect.
Text:
The subtext at the bottom of the
scree is in grey and small font
making it hard to read because of
the white background.
The title of the film is in bright red
and the biggest font on the screen,
this makes it stand out the most.
The colour red and the title makes
me think there is blood and gore
in the movie.
Above the title it shows the
director of the movie Quentin
Tarantino in white which stands
out with the title because of the
contrast to the mans black coat.
At the top the tagline is in black to
stand out from the white sky.
“coming soon” at the bottom is
also in red, this is because the
purpose of the poster is for the
target audience to see the film, so
once an official date has been
chosen it would say the date of
release.
4. Layout
The layout of the poster is smart because it draws
attention to the middle with the title and then you
see the director above who is baing used as a USP to
attract movie fans since Quentin Tarantino is a well
known director who has directed many successful
film in the past like: Pulp fiction, Kill bill and Django.
The tagline “no one comes here without a damn
good reason” is placed right above the cabin in the
back which makes the audience curious about the
setting and how it relates to the film.
