3. LOCATION AND ADDRESS
• BOA Academy, 1 Grosvenor Street, Birmingham, B4 7QD
There are many means of transport to get to BOA from
where I live (Stone, STOKE-ON-TRENT) the quickest way
to get there is by car which takes approximately 53
minutes or from a train from the near by town of
STAFFORD which takes 30-40 minutes, which will take
you to New Street station then there is a 15-20 minute
walk to the academy from the train station. The longest
method of transport would be a train from Stone which
takes 2 hours to again get to New Street Station then it
is again a 15-20 minute walk.
4. WHY IS IT A SUITABLE LOCATION?
It is a suitable location because as there is a TV it means that you can use professional
lighting equipment and a green screen which are there meaning so you can pick a
background and you can use the colours that you want so you could get them to be a bright
and as dull as you want them to be but if you were working at an outside location or
somewhere which isn’t a professional space it will mean that you will only have the natural
light to work with so you might not be able to create the atmosphere and the impression
that you want to get across to the reader with the lighting you use. For example as I am doing
a rock magazine I want darker lighting with hints of red in to create a dark atmosphere which
will meat the stereotypes of my target audience so I will be able to do this easily in a TV
studio as I will have the lighting equipment compared to if I was doing it outside which I
couldn’t do as I would not have the lighting.
5. THE AVAILABILITY OF THE LOCATION
One negative about using the TV studio is that there is only a small space of
availability die to the fact that it is in a school, they have lessons and workshops
which take place in there so they are a greater priority, though saying this the
studio is not used a lot so there a free periods of time which you can go in and
use the studio to take pictures and films in, you usually will have to ring up the
school and book a time slot which the studio is free and then you will use it
then, this could be a hassle compared to an outside location (due to the fact you
can use the space at anytime for as long as you need) as many of the times
could already be booked out so you could be waiting ages for an available lot or
you could have a short amount of time which you can’t finish your photo-shoot
in so you will have to book another time slot.

7. POWER SOURCES
Camera
The camera which I am using runs on batteries so I will make sure that I have charged
up my batteries prior to the photo-shoot and I will also I will have spares so that way I
won’t have to bring a battery charger pac to charge up the batteries.
Lighting
For my lights I will be using LED’s which means that they will have to be plugged in to
a socket for them to work, this will mean I will run them off an extension cord which
is in the corner of the room so they will be out of the way of the photo-shoot was no
damage can happen so that means I will have to make sure that there are no liquids
by the plug socket so that they can’t tip and damage the equipment. I will also have
to stick down the leads in their places which I put them so again they can’t full over
and damage the equipment again but I will have extra lights in case of a malfunction
so I have spares to use.
8. LIGHTING ISSUES AT THE LOCATION
• The only lighting issue there is, is that the studio is not naturally light in
the studio as there is no windows so if you wanted a light picture you
would have to use a lot of LED lights to achieve it which can be bad as
sometimes they don’t look that natural and also they might not look as
bright as you want them to look on the artist. As I want a darer photo-
shoot this isn’t a problem because I want dark photos so the naturally
dark lighting will add to my pictures meaning that I will only have to use
some LED lights to achieve the red and a light to shine on my artists to
make them stand out more against the background and it will make the
picture more dark.
