HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUPS?
Lauren and Sophie both wore white lab coats to show they are scientists in a
science lab. They are also both wearing science goggles on their head, as if to
show they have just finished experimenting. This made them both look like a
stereotypical smart nerds. As they both look very similar and are dressed the
same, this would make the audience think they are both equal so they wouldn’t
suspect either one is superior at this point.
How have you posed/dressed your actors?
Although they are both similar
height when standing, here we
only see Sophie sat down and
Lauren walking in to stand
over her. This small detail that
Lauren’s taller than Sophie
creates the impression she is
superior at this moment in
time.
At this last sequence, the power has
switched round, to where Sophie is
behind Lauren standing ready to
‘attack’ her. Where as now Lauren is
kneeling on the floor unsuspecting
of what is about to happen.
Using two female scientists, majority of the audience wont be able to relate to
their situation on finding a major ground-breaking cure, but they would be
able to relate to the high pressured work life. Most adults in a working
environment would have gone through the tough competion for jobs, but
never gone to the extent of getting revenge like how it is in my film. They
both are in In my mise-en-scene it helped communicate that even though
they are successful scientists, they are normal as my props of two cups of tea
is something most people enjoy which very normal for everyone's lives. The
costume for the social group aren’t dressed up in designer clothes, just normal
average clothes, when they aren’t wearing their lab coats. This can apply to
majority of the audience, communicating they look like average girls outside
of work.
WHAT DOES YOUR MISE-EN-SCENE COMMUNICATE ABOUT THE
PEOPLE (SOCIAL GROUP) REPRESENTED?
My target audience’ age group was for younger audiences from
ages 15 to 25. My media product would represent its target
audience as it contains suspense and excitement which would
appeal to all young people. I think it would also appeal to them
as my actors are also in that target age group so would attract
similar ages to watch.
I also think because of my films psychological twist with it, it
could also push for ages 25+ as in my research I found out that
older people enjoy working thing out for themselves in the
film.
HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT REPRESENT ITS TARGET AUDIENCE?
To attract the audiences to watch my media product, It had to contain a lot of
suspense and excitement. I feel in my editing I created this by using lots of pauses to
create tension and build up suspense. Jump cuts are also used, to show the chain of
events happening throughout the film, conforming to Thriller conventions.
My storyline is based on two people fighting over the responsibility of finding the
cure, that’s how they take revenge on each other, this one of the typical thriller
storylines.
By not using the setting of stereotypical thriller/horror settings ,for example in a dark
street or basement, I used a science room and hallway from a school, to make it look
like a science research building. Using the science setting, this is unusual for a thriller. I
thought this would make it interesting for audiences, seeing something different to
normal.

I think it would also appeal to them as my actors are also in that target age group so would attract similar ages to watch. I also think because of my films psychological twist with it, it could also push for ages 25+ as in my research I found out that older people enjoy working thing out for themselves in the film. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT REPRESENT ITS TARGET AUDIENCE?
  • 6. To attract the audiences to watch my media product, It had to contain a lot of suspense and excitement. I feel in my editing I created this by using lots of pauses to create tension and build up suspense. Jump cuts are also used, to show the chain of events happening throughout the film, conforming to Thriller conventions. My storyline is based on two people fighting over the responsibility of finding the cure, that’s how they take revenge on each other, this one of the typical thriller storylines. By not using the setting of stereotypical thriller/horror settings ,for example in a dark street or basement, I used a science room and hallway from a school, to make it look like a science research building. Using the science setting, this is unusual for a thriller. I thought this would make it interesting for audiences, seeing something different to normal. HAVE YOU CONFORMED TO CONVENTIONS OR MIXED IT UP? WHY?
