2. Fast paced editing is used at the beginning of the
video to cut between the band members and
instruments quickly. This signifies to the audience
that they are setting up in a studio. This is backed
by the song not starting until 40 seconds in.
Furthermore, the fast paced editing could connote
to the audience that the actual song has a fast pace
to it, meaning that the fast paced editing was
representing it. This makes it quite symbolic. An
eye line match is used at 1 minute 15 seconds, to
show to the viewer what the band member is
pointing at. This eye line match is also focused
in, which connotes to the viewer that it was done for
a reason and the band want the viewer to see it.
Focus is also used throughout the video to attract
the viewer to specific things such as, instruments
and band members.
Editing
3. The first shot which shows the band
members is an establishing shot; this
signifies to the audience that they
have done this to introduce the band
right from the beginning. Various
close ups on the band members to
convey to the viewer the amount of
concentration and effort that is used
when playing guitar and drums.
Panning is used throughout the video
to move from one band member to
another to portray to the viewer that
a different band member is
performing. For example, the song
begins with the drummer and then
pans over to the guitarists.

4. Multiple mid shots are
used throughout the video
to show the viewer the
body language of the band
members when
performing, thus
connoting their effort and
attitude towards the video
and song. Zoom is used to
zoom in on the band
members whilst
performing. This is done
at a fast pace and once it
has fully zoomed, the
camera slightly shakes.
This could be done to
represent the type of
music being played. Before zoom in After zoom in

5. Low angles are used when the
lead band member is singing.
This is done so that the camera
looks up at him, meaning that
his authority over the band is
being portrayed to the viewer.
Hand-held camera is used at
points in the video, this will
mean that the camera will not be
steady and instead slightly
shaken and fast moving. This is
effective to use for a music video
of this genre because it will make
the video speed up along with
the song. This will allow them to
be synchronised together.

6. High key lighting is used
throughout the video
because it is set in a
studio which has lights
specifically placed to aim
towards to band members
and specific instruments.
The costume used
throughout the video by
the band members is
quite casual, this
emphasizes that they
don’t need to be dressed
up because they are in a
studio and also just
walking to a pub.
Mise-en-Scene
7. The props used throughout
the video are mundane
instruments which you
would stereotypically
expect to see in a studio for
a band of this genre. These
included
drums, guitars, amps, micr
ophones and mixing desks.
Mise-en-Scene
8. Dialogue is used at the
beginning of the video; this is
to add to the effect that they
are setting up in the studio for
a performance. The video gives
the audience the impression of
diagetic sound because the
band are miming the lyrics and
playing the instruments in sync
with the music. However, this
isn’t diagetic because the music
is edited in after in order to
give this effective impact on the
audience.
