Knuckle Puck Shot Count
1. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
I picked this video to analysefor my second choice because like the
Twenty One Pilots Video, I really like how this oneis entirely based
on the band’s performance, aswell as consideringthe fansand giving
them a chance to feature alongside their favouritebands. Despite
KnucklePuck being a notoriousPop Punk Band, they are similar to
Twenty One Pilots with regards to the kindsof peoplewho are
attracted to their music, and both bandshad to self release a lot of
their material before actually getting signed to labels.
The video starts off with a Black
Screen, and you can hear that the
song has started, but you can see
that nothing is currently
happening.
On oneof the Drum Beats, ‘Yeah
Films’ appearsonto the screen.
This is the company who helped
create the video for the song.
Weare then taken to a Low
Angle Medium CloseUp/Long
Shot of drummer, John. TheLow
Key Lighting suggests that the
band is currently performingata
show as John is playinghis
drumsalso.
A CrossCutEdit then takes usto
a Medium Shot of a group of
boys. Throughthe Whip Pan
Action that is used secondslater,
you can see that Front Man of
KnucklePuck, Joe, is in the
middleof the group, and the
others are singingto him.
2. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The Whip Pan action continues,
enabling usto see moreof the
crowd of boys that Joe is in the
middleof, and how they are all
feeling the musicand singing
with all their might.
Another CrossCuttakes usto a
Shallow Focus Medium CloseUp
of FrontMan, Joe. This time, he is
performingnotin the crowd, but
in frontof them, and you can see
this through the use of a
Microphoneand the lack of
peoplesurroundinghim. The
camera stays on Joe for quite a
while, and you can see through
the movementthat this is a Hand
Held Shot.
The camera then goes to a Low
Angle LongShot/Close Up of
Nick’s Guitar. In terms of Camera
Movement, it is like the recording
device is attached to the Guitar,
as it moveswhen Nick does.
Weare then Crossed back to the
Medium CloseUp of Joe, and
Shallow Focus is used again in
order to make Joe stand out. The
camera is stationary at this point,
which is why Joe isn’t always in
the frame, dueto his movements.
3. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The video then crosses to a Close
Up of a crowd at a Show. Like one
of the previousshotsfeaturing
Drummer John, you know that
this is at a show dueto the
lighting, and you can see they are
all in a crowd of some sort.
The Camerathen zoomsout
slightly and weare able to see
Front Man Joeagain. The
Composition still remainsas the
Close Up Shot/Long Shot.
A Shot is then taken behind
Guitarist, Nick. And, the camera
then abruptly movesto the side,
and this is how the currentscene
and the next scene are linked;
through a Graphic Match.
After the Graphic Match, A
Medium LongShot can be seen of
Nick again, who is currently
performingBackingVocals as
well as Main Guitar.
The camera then zoomsout,
enabling Joe to be seen.
4. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
Crossinginto the next scene, a
Medium LongShot shows Ryan
(Bassist), Kevin (Rhythm
Guitarist) and Joe (FrontMan).
The camera is stationary at this
point.
The next shot involvesNick
(Main Guitarist) walkingpast the
camera and blocking the view;
Extreme CloseUp.
The video then goes back to the
scene where Joe is in a crowd of
people, the camera is mostly
stationary for this shot, however
it doeszoom in slightly at the last
second. The CloseUp enables us
to see the people’sfaces clearly.
The Medium LongShot of the
venueperformanceshowsJoe
interacting with the crowd. Like
the previousshot, this one is also
stationary.
There is a lot of movementin this
Low AngleClose Up shot, as the
recordingdevice is attached to
Nick’s Guitar (more than likely a
‘Go Pro Action Camera’)
5. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The TrackingShot enables usto
see John playinghis drums. The
Medium Longshot also helps
focusmore on John, and less on
his kit.
For the next four shots,the
camera is focusing on Joe
and the crowdin front of
him. Low Angle shots are
used to showhow the
crowd interactwith the
singer,
and the camera is
constantlymoving, which
gives the impression that
the camera is Representing
a Point of View
shot for what it would be
like for someone to be in a
Knuckle Puck crowd.
The Medium LongShot also
shows Joe’s interaction with the
crowd, and how they are all
really either enjoyingor getting
into the performancefrom the
band.
6. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The scene then changes back to
the room where the band and
other people watching are. A
Medium CloseUp once again
shows Joe singing, and the
peoplepresentinteracting with
him.
The camera then zoomsin and
slightly whip pansaround so the
three boysin frontof Joe can be
seen moreclearly, and with this
shot, it is obvious that the three
are singing along and having a
good time together.
A CrossCutthen takes us to a
Shallow Focus of Nick, who is
singing BackingVocals. This is
also a Close Up Shot of the band
member.
Another CrossCuttakes usback
to a Pan Shot of the scene where
the band are performingin the
dimly lit room.
The Camerathen stays on a Close
Up of Nick (Lead Guitarist) who
is singing with a Mic in his hand
at this point.
7. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
Wethen go back to the well-lit
room, and a Medium LongShot
shows Joe singing with the group
again. The camera followsJoe as
he bendsdown to help someone
up who has fallen.
A Medium CloseUp then shows
Joe, the boy who fell, and his
friend all singing to each other
and really getting into the music.
There is a camera attached to
Nick’s Guitar, as a resultthe
camera movesexactly when Nick
does. We can see a Close Up of
him playinghis instrument, and
you can also see a group of
peoplewho are watching him
and the band play.
A CrossCuttakes usaway from
Nick’s Guitar and we can now
properly seeNick, in the form of
a Medium LongShot as well as a
Shallow Focus; as Nick is slightly
morein focusthan the people
you can see behind him.
The camera then spinsaround,
and remainsin a Medium Long
Shot position. You can see Joe
performing, aswell as the people
watching dancingaround
amongst oneanother.
8. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The camera continuesto pan
around, coveringasmany people
as possible.
Another CrossCuttakes usback
to the dimly lit show, and a
stationary shot shows more of
the crowd watching Joe and the
band.
Another Shallow Focusof John
the Drummer.
Back to Nick’s Guitar Camera
Shot.
The camera then re-positionsso
we can see Nick’s body (besides
his head)
9. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
The camera then pansback
around to the floor of people, and
the stationary shot allows usto
clearly see everyonewho is there
movingaround.
The camera movesaround
slightly more, so we can now see
Joe and the boy who fell over
earlier. The medium LongShot
shows the connection between
the two males.
Another CrossCutto the other
scene, and a Close Up shows us
the crowd singingalong with Joe.
A CloseUp of Joe is next, and the
camera then pansaround again
so we can see moreof the people
who are surroundinghim.
There is beginningto be a Canted
Angle shot as the camera moves
morearound the room.
10. Knuckle Puck – Give Up – Music Video Shot Count
You can see the group clapping
as the band have finished the
song.
A Shallow Focus CloseUp shows
Joe finishing off Vocals.
The camera remainsat a similar
position after panninground
slightly and still focuseson Joe.
The screen blacks out, end of
video.
