The document discusses a group's storyboard draft for a music video. It includes descriptions of various scenes in the storyboard covering the introduction, an argument between the main characters, their separation, and the girl finding new friends. Feedback from a class discussion is also summarized, which led to changes in the storyboard like shortening the introduction and adding dissolves. The final storyboard is then presented in detail over multiple pages with explanations of how each shot advances the narrative and creates contrast.
2. This is our first story board draft. We have
done it rough so that we can move things
around and it will allow us to easily change
things if need be:
3. Here is the first 2 pages of our
1st story board draft. Within
the scenes the girl is walking
up to the house to meet her
boyfriend and them entering
the house to go to the living
room. There is diagetic sound
of her footsteps when she is
walking to the house. The
draft shows that we have
chosen to use a range of
camera shots e.g. point of
view and close ups and we
have also decided to use a go
pro within the first shot.
4. This is the next 2 pages of our
story board draft. They mainly
focus on the boy getting a
drink from the kitchen and the
girl texting her friend. Within
these shots there is a close up
of the boy and girls wrists in
which the audience can see
that they are both wearing
friendship bracelets. The
friendship bracelets are a big
part of the story line later on
so it is important that we use
a close up so that the
audience can clearly see the
bracelets.
5. Here is the next 3 pages of our
storyboard draft. They show
the boy and girl arguing and
this is where most of the
action in the music video
happens so we need to ensure
that we get this part looking
good so that it looks realistic
to the audience so by doing
the draft it ensures we can
get it right.
6. This picture shows the last 3
pages of our draft and also
some post it notes with the
class’ feedback on it. The last
3 pages of the draft mainly
show the girl at a campfire
with her friends but we have
also added in some cuts of the
boyfriend being upset in his
living room to contrast the
happy campfire scene.
7. Here is a photo from the
discussion
After finishing our draft
we had a class discussion
in which we showed them
our storyboard and they
gave us feedback on how
we can improve it.
Class Discussion
8. Feedback
From doing the class discussion we got a range of comments and feedback. Overall
the group seamed positive about our idea which gives us confidence and lets us
know that our idea is good enough. However one comment was that our
introduction may be abit long. I agree with this and I want to ensure that our
audience doesn’t get bored so therefore we have shortened the introduction time
by 5 seconds in order to stop the audience becoming bored. Another feedback
point we got was that we might have to record the diagetic music. I hadn’t
considered this and I think it is a relevant point as we will need to ensure that the
diagetic music is loud enough for the audience to hear so we have taken this
comment on board and will now ensure we record the diagetic sound after filming.
There were several comments asking who our cast was, and we couldn’t answer
this question as we didn’t know who the casting would be. We do have a strong
idea of what we want our actors to look and act like so now all we need to do is
audition potential actors and cast them correctly. Another bit of feedback/advice
we got was to add cross fades/dissolves into the fire scene. We really liked this
idea as it adds more to the video and helps the audience see both main character
emotions and expressions at certain points in the video so therefore when we do
our final story board we will ensure we add fades or dissolves into the fire scenes.
9. Overall, from doing the group discussion it has allowed us to find out other
peoples opinions and it has also allowed us to get some advice. Also it has
meant that we are changing some of the shots in our final story board and I
think if we change them it will make the video higher quality and overall look
more effective and professional.
11. These are the first 2 shots within our music
video. The first one is a point of view midshot
and we are going to do this with a go-pro and a
chest mount. This allows the audience to see the
girls perspective and also sets the scene as will
show the audience the whole setting. We will
also have diagetic sound of background noise and
emphasise her footsteps, this will create an
introduction to our video. The next scene is a
simple tracking midshot of the girl walking to the
door, again there will be ambient diagetic sound
and it will help set the scene.
12. The next shot is a close up of the girl
knocking at the door, and we will start the
song when her hand touches the door to
knock. The next shot is just a standard
midshot. This will allow the audience to see
both the bmain characters and allow them to
see their relationship to help set the scene
and the characters emotions to eachother.
13. The next 2 shots are again, standard long shots
and midshots. The first will be a tracking shot as
we will follow them to the living room. This also
allows the audience to see the setting and as the
living room is a key setting within this video I
think it is important that we have a longshot of
the room so that the audience can clearly see it.
Within both of these scenes the boy and girl will
both be hugging and smiling to show the
audience that they are comfortable with each
other and are clearly in some sort of
relationship. This creates a storyline and makes
it more interesting for the audience and ensures
they are kept interested in the video.
14. There is then a over the shoulder mid shot of the
boy going to the kitchen, the over the shoulder
shot lets the audience see his full perspective of
the kitchen. There is then a cut to a midshot of
the girl getting her phone out, during this she is
going to be acting panicky. This will show the
audience that she is obviously disturbed by
something and doing something sneaky or
something she isn’t 100% comfortable doing,
breaking the equilibrium of the scene and
therefore making it more exciting for the
audience as it creates enigma and anticipation.
15. The next 4 shots are are all cross cuts and
close ups. They show the boy getting the
drink and the girl messaging her friend. The
message that the girl is sending is about her
‘boyfriend’ so this creates tension and the
cross cuts add to the tension as we see her
frantically trying to write the text as he gets
the drinks. The close ups also allow the
audience to see clearly in detail what the
characters are doing.
16. There is then a midshot of the boy walking
back into the room and the girl is putting her
phone away, further showing the audience
that she was trying to be sneaky about it and
wasn’t comfortable messaging her friend in
front of her boyfriend. This further adds to
the storyline therefore making it more
entertaining for the audience.
17. The next shot is of a close up of the boy
passing the girl her drink, the close up allows
the audience to see that both the boy and
girl have matching friendship bracelets on,
showing the audience that they are
connected by this bracelet. This is important
as later on in the story the girl breaks hers-
implying that their relationship is now over.
18. There is then 2 mid shots of the girl knocking
over the glass of water and the boyfriend
getting angry. During this he is going to be
very aggressive towards the girlfriend and
therefore the audience will feel empathy for
the girl. It also adds to the storyline and
creates a broken equilibrium and therefore
keeps the audience interested in the video
and ensures they don’t get bored.
19. There is then a close up, point of view hand
held shot. This is a unique shot so adds
something different to our video and also
allows the audience to see the boys emotion
and just how angry he is. The handheld
camera will connote the rage that the boy is
feeling and the point of view from the girls
perspective will show that he is shouting very
close to her face and that he has a high
temper towards her, creating tension in the
audience as they will feel sorry for the
characters involved.
20. There is then another midshot to continue
showing the audience the argument. This is
followed by a low angle mid shot. The low angle
can signify that the disruption is causing a break
in their relationship and that they are both
emotionally drained and upset about the
argument, this is further shown in the next shot
as it is an over the shoulder midshot so allows
the audience see the girl leaving and the boys
perspective of this. There is also the sound of
the door slamming and this can show the girls
anger as she is leaving.
21. The next shot is a handheld close up of the
girl when she has left the house. The close up
will allow the audience to see her emotion
(which will be sadness and she will be
crying). There is then a cut to the boy and
this will then let the audience see his
emotions too. The next shot is a close up of
the boy playing with the bracelet which is a
symbol of their relationship. This is important
as the audience can now see that he is
feeling guilty for his aggressive actions
towards the girl and that he wants her back.
22. There is then a sped up/ time-lapse shot of
the sky. We chose this because it can
represent time moving on showing the
audience that time as passed and this fits in
with the storyline as the girl has moved on
from the relationship and she is now ‘free’.
23. There is then a long shot of the field where the girl is
meeting her friends. We have also decided to add in
a focus pull. The focus pull will add something
unique and fancy to the shot making it more visually
pleasing. It will also allow the audience to see the
fire and the girls friends in clear focus. There is then
a close up, point of view ,hand held camera shot of
the girl saying hi to her friends. As this is a close up
we will be able to see her friends facial expressions
and be able to see that they are happy to see her
and that they are sweet innocent people. It will also
allow us to see from the main girls perspective,
helping tell the story. There is then a long shot of the
field again and this will have a pan from left to right.
This will allow the audience to see the whole setting
and will allow them to see just how happy the girl is
to be with her friends showing the audience that
since breaking up with her boyfriend the girl is now
free and happy.
24. There is then a cross fade to a midshot of the
boy sat on his sofa. During this shot he is
going to be sad and upset and you will be
able to see this through his facial expressions
and his body language e.g. hands in face to
suggest his sadness. This will create a
contrast to the girl being happy and adds to
the story line therefore keeping the audience
interested.
25. There is then a dissolve to a midshot of the girl and
her friends. Again, this will create a nice contrast
from the boy being upset as this scene will be happy
and have a feel-good theme to it. This is also shown
in the next shot as there is a cut to a close up of the
boy. The close up will allow the audience to clearly
see the boys distraught and angry facial expressions
showing them that he is regretful for his aggressive
tendencies to his ex-girlfriend and he clearly wants
her back. There is then a fade to a midshot of the
girl and her friends and this will also be in slow
motion. There is going to be sparklers used within
this scene and the slow motion will clearly show the
sparklers off and make it look pretty and eye
catching. The slow motion effect will also show the
girls happy faces in the scene, again creating a
contrast to the boys sad emotions. There is then a
close up of the sparklers and this again will be eye
catching and therefore will keep the audience
entertained and ensure that they keep watching the
video.
26. There is then a mid shot and point of view
handheld shot and you hear the girls say “are
you coming?”, this then caries on to the next
shot which is a close up slow motion shot of the
girl breaking her friendship bracelet. This
signifies the final breakup with her boyfriend as
the bracelet represented their relationship and
as she has broken it, it finalises her happiness to
be away from him and her decision to do this.
There is then a tracking shot of the girl throwing
the bracelet into the fire, followed by a close up
of the bracelet in the fire. This further shows
that the bracelet is being ruined further
representing the break up. These shots finalise
the story/narrative and ensures the audience are
kept entertained right to the end of the song.
