8. Otitis externa
-infection of external ear part
acute
- can be or chronic
or malignant
- Acute can be localized- Acute can be localized
or diffuse (swimmers ear)
- Cause mainly by S.auerus , S.pyogen and P.aeruginosa
9. Otitis Media
-infection of middle ear
A- acute
- can be B- or chronic supportive otitis media
(CSOM)
A- acute otitis media :
It viral infection (mainly by RSV and Influenza) , can
complicate by bacteria which include S.pneumoniacomplicate by bacteria which include S.pneumonia
,H.influenza , S.auerus , M.catarrhalis and S.pyogen.
B- chronic supportive otitis media :
Pseudomonas , anaerobes (bacteroides) , protus , coliform
, S.auerus , candida , aspergillus , dermatophytes.
10. Chronic ear infection :
-cause by bacteria (as bacteroides)or fungi
Otomycosis :
-It fungal ear infection , chronic cause by candida ,
aspergillus , dermatophytes and phaycomycetes.
11. Lab diagnosis of ear infection
-Specimen : Ear swab , ear discharge
-Transportation : Amies transport media
-Microexamination: Gram stain

Routine : BA , Choclate agar and MaCconkey
