Hello Class,
Authentic leadership humbly recognizes that while they may be
in charge, principle will ultimately governs (Convey, S. R
2003). Authentic leadership is comprises of 16 instrument, Self-
Awareness Questionnaire which measures four factors four
factors of authentic leadership which are: self-awareness,
internalized moral perspective, rational transparency and
balance processing. (Northouse, 2016, p. 217), after taking the
personal value survey, the three traits that I scored higher are:
Self-Awareness 17, internal moral prospective 16, balance
processing 14.
I value self-awareness in my life and professionally
because; the ability for me to understand and appreciate my
strength is as importantly for me to recognize my vulnerability.
Self-awareness allow me more effective communication, this is
because with self-awareness, I am able to recognize the impact I
have on the people around me. Also to be effective leader self-
awareness skill, is ability that should be practice.
Professionally, I seek feedback from others which will enable
me more understanding of who I am from different perspective.
Being self-aware of my actions, strength and weakness will
allow me grow positively career wise and personally. However,
“Others see people who have self-awareness as more authentic”
(Northouse, 2016, p. 203).
The three principles that emanate with self-
2. awareness are: self-awareness facilitate decision-making, it
predict self-development, acceptance and productivity, while
internal moral prospective emanated principles are: treating
others the way I want to be treated, being honest and being
authentic. And finally the principle that emanate with balance
processing are: improvement on the expression and exercise of
authentic leadership by weighing the different alternatives when
making decisions, to stop relying so much on one's own mental
models to incorporate valuable information from others, and to
be able to achieve consensus regarding the steps to take.
To truly understand myself, offers me the route to
contentment and peace, and oftentimes, happiness. Therefore a
simple, self-care routine ensures your thoughts are clear, calm,
and your focus is indeed better to work on the challenges ahead.
Therefore self-awareness is imperative for every person or
leadership.

RE: Discussion - Week 6
Top of Form
The survey results scored with the following three highest
values with humanity being the top score followed by justice
3. and the third runner up being courage. This was an interesting
survey as all as assignment as I have been one of those who has
been misguided about the true differences of values and
principles (Covey, 2008). I will go on provide a list of
principles for each of the three values.
Humanity was my highest scoring value on the survey. There
are many principles that can come from this value, but one of
the top ones for me would be, helping others when they need
assistance. For example, many peers at work call, email, or
stop by my desk because they have a computer problem. I will
get to a stopping point of the task I am on and take the time to
assist them. By taking the time from what I am doing, builds a
relationship with those who I have helped. Through my
experiences of helping others, I have learned that when I need
something, they can help me with, they are more likely to assist
since I have helped them previously. This ties into my second
highest scoring value of justice.
Again, there are many values to choose from, but one that is
most important to me is making sure everyone feels included by
treating them fairly. This can easily be done by diversity and
inclusion. For example, it aides in minimizing group think
because individuals from all backgrounds and experiences are
taken into consideration and fresh ideas are brought to the table
(Tavakoli, 2015). Another example of how I treat employees
fairly is by not allowing outside opinions impact my judgement
or opinion of others.
My third highest scoring value was courage and I believe it is
important to be open to constructive feedback so that we can
develop ourselves into better leaders. Constructive feedback is
difficult to hear at times and can be painful as I know I am
challenged with hearing how others think at times and can be
painful as I know I am challenged with hearing how others think
or feel about me at times (George et. al, 2007). Often, because
that feedback can be so gut wrenching, it will hit in a way that
we reflect and do something to make a positive change (George
et. al, 2007). Bourke & Espedid (2019) mention that being open
4. to feedback shows that I am an inclusive leader because I am
listening to what my workers are telling me.
A goal that I want to attain is to have all generations on the
same page with what diversity and inclusion really is. I know
this goal will be attained when there are no longer stereotype
comments made with regards to race, sexual orientation, or
gender, just to name a few (Tavakoli, 2015). Diversity and
inclusion is so much more than what it used to be and so many
are not openminded enough to realize this (Tavakoli, 2015).
This will be an incredibly challenging goal to achieve, but with
research, training materials, and guest speakers for on-site
meetings, there will be a decrease in the amount reports made
regarding conflicts, discussions, or hearsay about stereotype
comments. From recent experiences, I know I will have to
remain calm, be consistent and constantly remind some
employees that their comments are not necessary nor are they
appropriate for the workplace. If it comes down to it, I may
have to begin writing employees up who are not cooperating and
allow the system to perform its job.

5. Assignment instructions:
In Week 6 of this course, you examined your ethics, values, and
principles to develop at least three goals that you will strive
toward throughout your program and in your professional life.
With these endpoints determined, you will now develop an
action plan to ensure progress toward one of your goals.
While you might take many paths to reach a goal, this week will
help you to determine the most efficient and reasonable
milestones for you to measure your progress toward one of your
goals. Examine the goal you posted in the Week 6 Shared
Practice ”on page 3 and 4”.
· What types of tasks and activities will you need to do to
accomplish this goal?
· Will you need to find a mentor or take a course in a particular
subject in order to have the knowledge to achieve your goals?
· Will you need to attend networking events and establish
contact with certain people to accomplish your goals? The
process below will help you develop an action plan for
accomplishing your goal. This action plan will become part of
your BPPG.
Select the goal you posted in your Week 6 Shared Practice “on
page 3 and 4”. You will use this goal to develop an action plan
for achieving your goal.
To prepare for this Shared Practice:
· Draft your goal and state a reasonable time line to meet your
goal;
· Specify at least two objectives which will help you reach the
goal;
· Identify at least two measurable milestones you will need to
complete to meet your objective; and
· Determine a timeline to ensure that progress on individual
milestones can be measured. (Hint: As you determine the
timeline to meet the individual milestones, it may be necessary
to reconsider the time line you established for the greater goal.)
When you have completed this exercise, you are ready to draft
6. your goal in paragraph form for your Shared Practice. Your post
for the Shared Practice should be in the range of 3–5 coherent
paragraphs and should cohesively present your action plan to
achieve your goal.
Your assignment should include the following:
· Your assignment should range of 3–5 coherent paragraphs and
should cohesively present your action plan to achieve your goal.
· Your specific goal for professional and personal development
with an explanation as to why you selected this goal. Your
explanation should address how the questions your colleagues
posed helped you refine and clarify your goal.
· A reasonable timeline for achieving your stated goal.
· At least two objectives you have identified that will help you
reach your goal with a rationale that explains how your
objectives support the goal.
· At least two measurable milestones for ensuring progress for
each objective you identified as well as the timelines you have
established for each milestone.
· No Plagiarism
· APA 7th edition format
7. Week 6 Shared Practice Personal Values discussion:
Personal values are the principles of behavior and they
influence our judgement of circumstances in life. The idea of
personal values is principal in various fields (Sagiv, L., et al.)
and therefore understanding personal values is relevant in
understanding human behavior. Identifying and perceiving
personal values (Www.facebook.com/brilliantlivinghq, 2018) is
significant in how we order our priorities and plan ourselves. It
is easier to commit to causes that align with our personal values
and principles. Values are important to us because we all feel
good when we abide by our value or do things that align with
our personal values and underlying principles. Our values are
guidance in how we judge and approach situations and the merit
of our lives and they make it easier for us to focus on what we
believe to matter.
In the personal values survey, my three values happen to
include courage, justice and humanity. I selected these from my
personal experiences in day to day interactions. For the value of
courage, my top principle is persistence. I work really hard to
commit to and complete my tasks no matter how hard they may
be. I often try to be done with tasks on time and I always try to
avoid mistakes while at it. I selected this value and principle
respectively because I often participate in activities that may be
challenging but manageable that way I can stay on track.
Persistence is very important to me since it pushes me to deliver
and it also helps me avoid procrastinating. Persistence has also,
more than once pulled me up from a failed attempt at a task that
8. I had failed at.
My other top value is justice. Justice gives me the sense
of responsibility of equality for anyone around me that may not
be on the receiving end of just treatment. Justice is very
important because it blends well with both social and work
ethics and therefore is all rounded. I often in believe in treating
others as one would like to be treated. Among the prominent
principles in under this value is fairness. The principle is
significant to me it eases my interactions with other members of
my community and avoids any possible friction with other
people. Being fair to others also persuades others to give me a
chance in other situations. My third of the three top values is
humanity. Humanity is important because it influences many of
my personal interactions with the people around me. It
motivates people around me to approach me knowing that I am
easy to relate to and therefore enhancing personal relationships.
Coexisting is key in societal compactness and helping others
whenever possible preserves human integrity. My selected
principle under this value is kindness. Kindness involves doing
others good while expecting nothing in return. Kindness dwells
on being considerate, generous and not belittling those who may
be beneath you in hierarchy or otherwise. I like doing well to
others whether stranger or a friend. I put myself in other
people’s shoes at times when I’m in dilemma to avoid feeling
guilty later.
A goal that I have unfolded with persistence in mind is
learning a foreign language. Persistence while attempting this
goal is important because learning something new is not always
easy especially is it is as broad as languages. Persistence will
help me while learning because it may get really hard but if I
push myself to keep going until the end I am going to achieve
this set goal without quitting halfway. Some of the challenges
that I expect to come across while striving towards my goal
include questioning the need for this, the temptation to quit due
to the work involved and laziness from time to time. I intend to
overcome these and other potential challenges by looking at the
9. benefits that will come with achieving my goals and planning
myself well in order to avoid finding myself overwhelmed.
Identifying my personal values and key principles is key to
focusing and staying committed to myself and what I stand for.
