The document provides a summary of Surah Lail (Chapter 92 of the Quran). It discusses that the Surah highlights the difference between those who lead their lives according to the right path versus the wrong path. It notes there are two broad categories of people - those who are charitable, conscious of Allah, and acknowledge goodness, and those who are miserly, don't care about Allah, and deny goodness. For the first group, Allah will make good deeds easy and evil difficult, while for the second group it will be the opposite. The Surah warns that none will be saved from punishment except the righteous, while the God-fearing will be spared from the fire.
2. Introduction
Main Ideas:
Highlights the difference between two ways of
life : the right path and the wrong path
People that lead their lives in two different
ways can not possibly have the same result
Ex. A good student and a bad student don’t
deserve the same grades
4. Introduction: Part One
Different people strive (work towards
different things)
To generalize, there are two key
categories of people
Allah describes 3 characteristics of each
kind of person
5. Introduction: Part One
The first kind of person:
1. Spends their wealth
2. Is conscious of Allah and doing good
3. Who acknowledges the good as good
(knows or understands what is good)
For these kinds of people, Allah will make
doing good easy for them and evil difficult
6. Introduction: Part One
The second kind of person:
1. Miserly – does not want to spend their
wealth
2. Doesn’t care about God
3. Denies what’s good or right
Allah will make easy for this kind of person
doing evil and hard to do good
7. Introduction: Part One
Allah states that these two kinds of people
can never be equal
If you are unequal in your work, how can
you expect to be equal in your result?
8. Introduction: Part Two
In part two, Allah states 3 truths:
1. Allah did not leave people uninformed. He
explained what is the right way and what is
the wrong way in this life. (He sent the
Messengers and the Quran)
2. Allah is the Master of this world and the
next. He will give you whatever you seek. It is
up to you to decide what you want.
9. Introduction: Part Two
In part two, Allah states 3 truths (cont.):
3. Those who reject the good and right path
will have to deal with the consequences and
the consequence is going to be the Fire.
Those who do good will be blessed by Allah.
10. Questions (Introduction)
1. How many broad categories of people are
there?
2. What 3 characteristics does Allah use to
describe the first kind of person?
3. What 3 characteristics does Allah use to
describe the second kind of person?
4. What will Allah make easy for the first kind of
person?
5. What will Allah make easy for the second kind
of person?
6. What are the three truths that Allah discusses in
the second part of the Surah?
11. Ayah One: By the night when it enshrouds,
Notice how Allah swears by opposites: day and
night
The same way night and day are opposites,
good people and bad people are opposites
Ayah Two: and by the day when it breaks in its
glory,
12. Ayah Three: and by Him Who created the male
and the female:
Notice that Allah again swears by opposites:
male and female, boys and girls
The same idea is here: the same way that boys
and girls are opposites, so are good people and
bad people
The reason why Allah swears by opposites is
because he wants to show that the two types of
people are opposites and the results they will
get are also opposites
13. Ayah Four: surely your strivings are divergent.
This is Allah saying that the same way the night
and day are opposires and the male and female
are opposites, what people strive (work) after
are opposites
Everyone struggles for a different cause
Some people want to work hard only for this
world
Others focus for the world in the Hereafter
14. Ayah Five: As for him who gave out his wealth (for
Allah’s sake ) and abstained (from disobeying Him),
Allah is describing the characteristics of the first
kind of person:
Someone who doesn't’t worship their wealth and
spends whatever Allah gave them for good works and
helping others
These people also worship Allah and don’t disobey
Him
15. Ayah Six: and affirmed the Truth of goodness:
Another charactristic of the first kind of person is
that they believe in the Truth and in goodness.
They have morals and they believe in Allah and
Islam
16. Ayah Seven: We shall facilitate for him the Way
to Bliss.
Because of the struggles and good works of the
first kind of people, Allah will make doing good
deeds easy for them
Also, he will make doing bad deeds harder for
them
17. Ayah Eight: As for him who was a miser and
behaved with aversion (to Allah),
Here there is a contrast and Allah starts
describing the second kind of person
The first characteristic is that the person is stingy
– does not want to spend their money or doesn’t
want to spend it for Allah’s cause
They also don’t care about Allah or His
commands
They don’t care if they disrespect Allah or
disobey his commands
18. Ayah Nine: and denied the Truth of goodness:
The third quality of the person is that they deny
the Truth and refrain from doing what is good
They deny what is good and what is right
19. Ayah Ten: We shall facilitate for him the way to
Hardship,
This means that Allah will make doing evil deeds
easier for those people who want to do evil
Note that this does not mean that Allah will force
anyone to do good or bad, it is ultimately the
persons choice
Allah will just help them attain what they choose
20. Ayah Eleven: and his wealth shall be of no avail
to him when he perishes.
This person’s wealth will not be able to them
Because when you die, you can’t take any of
your wealth with you
You can only take your deeds with you

Right Way,
Allah took the responsibility of informing
mankind of what the right way and the wrong
way is
He didn’t leave mankind to figure out the world
by themselves
He guided us by giving us a conscience, the
Messengers, and the Books including the Quran
23. Ayah Thirteen: and to Us belong the Next Life
and the present.
Allah is the Master of both world, this world and
the Hereafter
Whoever wants this world, Allah can give it to
them
Whoever wants the next world, Allah can give
that to them
24. Ayah Fourteen: I have now warned you of a
Blazing Fire,
Allah warned all of us to try to be like the first
person because if you are bad, then you will
have to deal with the consequences

punishment in the next world
The punishment is the Hellfire
25. Ayah Fifteen: where none shall burn except the
most wicked,
Good people are not going to be punished or
have to deal with a harsh afterlife
Only bad people will have this result, or have to
go through this punishment for their actions
26. Ayah Sixteen: who rejected the Truth, calling it
falsehood and turned his back on it.
It will be those people, the second kind of
person, who rejected Allah and Islam
These people will deal with the Hellfire
27. Ayah Seventeen: But the God fearing shall be
kept away from it,
Those who feared Allah and did good deeds
knowing that they will have to meet Him in the
Hereafter, they will be saved from the Fire
28. Ayah Eighteen: the God-fearing who spends
his wealth to purify himself;
It will be those people who gave in charity and
spent their wealth for Allah’s sake
They will be saved from the Fire
29. Ayah Nineteen: not as payment for any favors
that he received,
These good people who spent their wealth for
charity and good things did not do it for selfish
reasons or to boast off what they did
30. Ayah Twenty: but only to seek the good
pleasure of his Lord Most High.
These good people actually spent their money
for Allah’s cause so that He would be pleased
with them
31. Ayah Twenty-One: He will surely be well-
pleased (with him).
These good people will also be please by what
Allah will reward them with
Allah will be pleased with them and they will be
pleased with Allah
