• Amina gave him to be raised in the dessert
• This was the custom of the elite/nobility of the
Quraish
• It was a status symbol
4. • Why did they send their children to be raised in the
desert?
– 1. They wanted the child to be raised in a pure and
healthy environment. The infant mortality was extremely
high. They would take them away from civilizations.
– 2. They wanted to build stamina in the child and make
them adjusted to a rough life. This would help them get
accustomed to the hardships of Makkah. The hardships
of Makkah then seem like luxury.
– 3. Growing up in the dessert away from the parents and
family, the child is not pampered. To raise the child in a
disciplined environment.
