An Overview

Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. Aug’07 - Aug‘08
Started career as an Engineer with Vedanta Alumina Refinery limited. It was a green field
project in Orissa Lanjigarh with 1.4MMTPA capacity. The company implemented SAP R/3 for

Utkal Alumina International Limited
Key Result Areas:
 Responsible for the technical support of white area and utilities.
 Implementation of procedures and controls of Precipitation (high solid circuit), Seed
Classification(Hydrocyclones), Seed Preparation(Disc Filter Operation) and Utilities
(RWTP, STP, ACT & NACT) to assist and support operations and provide suitable
instructions to CCR and correct their deviations from targets.
 Defining set of parameters and communicating the same to CCR to ensure they have
clear guidelines that will facilitate the steering of processes.
 Preparation of various Daily Reports (Production Reports, Process Reports, Quality
Reports etc...,) and managing the total MIS as required by Unit as well as Corporate
office.
 Consolidation and processing of data generated from CCR, analyze deviations and trends
in order to create visibility over process performance, accordingly forecast future
parameters and recommendation of action plan.
 Monitoring the parameters of Raw Water (~18000m3/day) after treatment and ensuring
the right quality for Power plant and for consumption at Refinery and Township.
 Monitoring the quality of STP (~150m3/day) output and accordingly taking corrective

 Conducted controlled plant trails on Seed Classification System to assess the
performance and efficiency of Primary and Scalping Cyclone Batteries; made
improvements based on the controlled plant test data to increase efficiency.
 Made a detailed study on the working of various Crystal Growth modifiers (CGM) and
suggested a better product.
 Made an audit on the filtrate solids and successful in bringing down the filtrate solids
below 1 gpl.
 Made an audit report on Alkaline Cooling Tower (reasons for increase in alkalinity) and
successfully controlled the alkalinity.
 Developed new vendors for speciality chemicals and filter cloths.
 Conducted Lab tests on chemicals (Polyelectrolyte, CGM, Flocculants) from new
suppliers and also reviewed their performance on Plant Scale before confirming new
suppliers / vendors.

 Checking of interest rates and interest amounts charged by the banks every month and
look any mismatches; if found any errors, deal with bankers to correct the extra charges

supposed consumption levels and suggest modifications and changes for controlling the
consumption.

4. Notable Attainments:
 Commissioned and stabilized the three gunny manufacturing units which were taken over
by the company.
 Recovered approximately one crore seventy five lakh rupees from consortium bankers on
account excess charges and wrong penalties in a span of 2 years.
 Reduced the cost of production by ~25% in 3 years.
 Introduced the concept of outsourcing in order to increase the production.
 Successfully led the team that implemented TALLY ERP in place of existing old
software of the company and linking them with other companies of the group
 Developed new vendors for various spares.
