2. Definition
The control of the information and ideas circulated within a society.
In the 20th Century, censorship was achieved through the examination of books,
plays, films, television and radio programs, news reports, and other forms of
communication for the purpose of altering or suppressing ideas found to be
objectionable or offensive

3. Withholding information

This is a good example of withholding information type of censorship because in
North Korea only few people have government permission to own a computer.
The government is withholding information to their people in order to have a better
control on them.

4. Destroying Information

In this article, it is talked about how the extremist group ISIS burned books, and
manuscripts to make people fear them. They burned about 115,000 manuscripts
and books trailing back to the ottoman era.

5. Modifying Information

This is an example of altering or falsification of history because a diplomat claimed
that she graduated from the University of Philippines when she did not. The
diplomat is altering the history.

6. Self Censorship

This is an example of self-censorship, in this interview, a journalist interviews the
Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto. The interview was really heated, the
journalist was insulting Peña left and right, just without using swear words. Both
parties, the journalist and Peña were censoring themselves by not swearing
because they knew that they would have very bad consequences.

7. Conclusion
To conclude, censorship has been around since the beginning of the media, it can
be either destroying information, withholding information, modifying information or
self censorship. Each type of censorship is bad in itself but, censorship should
exist but in a much lower rate. Censorship can control how the population
thinks/acts so if every news story is 100% real people would react badly most of
the time but, the amount of censorship nowadays is extreme, most news stories
are censored in some way.
