More than 600 school students are expected to participate in the First South Asian Martial Arts
championship, which is scheduled to kick off at the National Sports Council covered hall from
Jan 15.
The two-day event, jointly organized by Student Olympic Association Nepal (SOAN) and Aava
Group, will host students from Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan competing in
Karate, Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Taekwon-do and Wushu.
According to the organizers, around 300 participants from Nepal were selected on the basis of
different school-level tournaments. “This will be a great opportunity for school-level students to
improve by playing against their regional opponents.
This tournament can also be seen as a platform for making new friends and learning from them,”
said Purushottam Budathoki, general secretary of SOAN. Aava Group executive director
Kamana Neupane said that the tournament is an initiative toward strengthening the bond between
students, who will be future national players.
