Metropolitan Police Crime Division has launched a manhunt to nab the suspect behind the
murder of a 20-year-old girl in Maitidevi.
Ritu Mahaseth of Janakpur was stabbed yesterday by an unidentified person while she and two
other girls were walking towards Ghattekulo to attend a wedding ceremony at around noon,
according to police.
Mahaseth, who sustained injuries in her belly and chest, was first taken to KMC Teaching
Hospital, Sinamangal, which referred her to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital,
Maharajgunj for further treatment. She died the same evening while undergoing treatment.
Mahaseth was a BBS first year student at Kantipur College, Baneshwor, and she had been
residing at SNS Girls Hostel in Maitidevi, said to police.
An unidentified man stabbed her saying ‘you betrayer’ and fled the scene. “The two other girls
could not recognise the attacker and the victim was not in a condition to speak after she was
stabbed,” an official at MPCD said adding, “Preliminary investigations suggest the assailant
could be a college-mate. Yet, we are looking into the case from multiple angles.”
