Reasons for undertaking project:
• Unique collaboration between Walsall College (FE),
University of Wolverhampton (HE), Awarding
Organisation Accredited Skills for Industry (AO,
ASFI) and a The Black Country University Technical
College (BC UTC)
• Project builds on Government commitment to
expanding participation in HE
• Significant for the West Midlands where the
working age population achieving qualifications
level 4 and above is less than 30%
Activities:
• Facilitated meetings between the BC UTC and UoW
• Curriculum mapping between BC UTC and 1st Year
Undergraduate Engineering Degree
• Develop profile for recognition/exemption pathway
• Verified with external partners
• Explored scope for transferability and scalability to
other UTC/University partnerships
Aims of project:
• Agree mechanism for the recognition of level 4
learning at the BCUTC into the UoW undergraduate
Engineering Degree in line with regulations
governing credit
• Facilitating access and buying exemption from first
year engineering degree for learners progressing to
UoW
Outcomes of project:
• Agreed model for the acceptance of credit by the
UoW of BC UTC learners
• Development of accredited pathway to incorporate
further engineering degree units into BC UTC
curriculum
• Website creation that incorporates descriptions of
the pilot projects, resources for use by partners
and a forum to facilitate Community of Practice
activity - http://www.cat-pilot-projects.net/
• The New Engineering Foundation has registered an
interest in the project. NEF is an independent
educational charity and think-tank that supports the
advancement of technical and scientific vocational
education
