1. Architecture Program Highlights Technology
Cassidy & Company, Architectural Technologists, Hunt Design Associates Inc. Romanov
Romanov, Architects; and LaPointe Architects are just some of the companies looking to
hire grads of the three-year Centennial College architecture program in Ontario — known
officially as Architectural Technology. But just why are these companies looking for
Centennial College grads to work with their architects, engineers, builders, contractors,
developers, and construction material manufacturers and suppliers? Let’s take a look.
•
Faculty members who have advanced degrees, licenses, and credentials in
architecture, architectural technology, building science, engineering, and green
building, including many current industry practitioners, lead the architecture
program.
•
The background of these faculty members is conducive with students receiving an
education that is highly respected in the field.
•
The curriculum of the program is project-based to ensure students obtain
hands-on learning.
•
Each semester focuses on teaching students a different building type
through a strong foundation in technical knowledge.
•
Because of society’s eco-friendly direction, the program emphasizes energy-efficient
design, sustainable design and construction strategies, and protecting the
environment.
•
Specific courses within this program include: four levels of Design and Computer
Aided Drafting Project, Mathematics for Architecture, Materials and Methods,
Environment, Construction Health and Safety, History of Western Architecture,
Building Services, Structures, Architectural Graphics and more.
•
Students have the option to complete the full, three-year architecture program (with
its technology focus) or apply to graduate from the two-year Architectural
Technician program after two years.
2. •
Graduates of the program may qualify for advanced standing in: RAIC Syllabus,
which leads to the RAIC Professional Diploma in Architecture; Bachelor of Applied
Technology (Architecture – Project and Facility Management), Conestoga College;
and Bachelor of Applied Technology (Construction Science and Management),
George Brown College.
•
Grads may pursue a membership in Ontario Association for Applied Architectural
Sciences, which can lead to Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) membership as
a Licensed Technologist OAA.
•
Those interested in attending this program must have completed at minimum an
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or
older.
•
Applicants must have the compulsory English 12C or U credit or skills assessment,
or equivalent and the Math 11M or U or 12C or U credit or skills assessment, or
equivalent.
•
Once they graduate from the program, students are prepared to successfully carry
out a number of responsibilities that include: negotiating the construction project
and managing the process from conception through to completion; providing
building design services and solutions; using state-of-the-art computer technology
to prepare designs, construction drawings, specifications, and reports needed to
communicate with clients, builders, and approval authorities; and more.
