2. Dextrocardia is a rare heart condition in which
your heart points toward the right side of your
chest instead of the left side.
Dextrocardia is a congenital condition.
5. • During the early weeks (6th
week)of pregnancy, the
baby's heart develops. The
reasons for Dextrocardia
are unclear.
• Genetic causes
• Nothing significant
6. In this form of dextrocardia, the heart is simply
placed further right in the thorax than is normal.
It is commonly associated with severe defects of
the heart and related abnormalities
7. Dextrocardia with situs inversus refers to the heart
being a mirror image situated on the right side.
For all visceral organs to be mirrored.
Although statistically people with dextrocardia do
not have any medical problems from the
disorder.
8. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
NORMAL
• Apex beat is 5th left
intercostal space in the mid
clavicular line
• S1 can be best hear on the
apex, 5 th left inter costal
space.
• S2 can be heard on left
sternal notch
DEXTRO CARDIA
• Apex beat is on the right side
• S1 can be best hear on the
apex, 5 th right inter costal
space.
• S2 can be heard on right
sternal notch
• Abdominal organs are seen in
other quadrant
16. ECG/ DEFIBRILLATING
• ECG leads must be placed in reversed position.
• When defibrillating someone with dextrocardia
the pads should be placed in reserve position.
That is instead of upper right and lower left, pads
should be placed upper left and lower right.
Normal
19. • The aorta connects to the right
ventricle instead of to the left
ventricle.
• The walls separating all 4 chambers
of the heart are poorly formed or
absent
• Single ventricle
Absent
20. According to the research
conducted by xie L in the
year 2016.Invasive
diagnostic procedures and
prophylactic surgery should
not be done in
asymptomatic (dextrocardia)
cases.
• Patient is asymptomatic
from birth. No invasive
surgeries done.
21. Book picture
• The baby might also need
surgery to correct problems
in the organs of the
abdomen.
• May need long-term
antibiotics in case of
recurrent infections.

22. PROGNOSIS
BOOK PICTURE
• Babies with simple
dextrocardia have a normal
life expectancy and should
have no problems related to
dextrocardia
• Dextrocardia with other
defects in the heart
prognosis can be poor
PATIENT PICTURE
• Simple dextrocardia
