The sun produces light with wavelengths between 200 nm and 2600 nm, similar to a 5250°C blackbody. Light is categorized into ultraviolet (200-400 nm), visible (400-700 nm) and infrared (700 nm - 1 mm). As light passes through the atmosphere, gases absorb certain wavelengths - ozone absorbs below 290 nm while water vapor absorbs infrared bands. The maximum intensity is at 480 nm, with ultraviolet containing 7% of total energy and infrared containing 45.7% of the energy from the sun.
