This training explores workingwith youngpeoplein care, how toprovide effective
supportandto enable themto participate in yourservice.
The sessionaims to enable participantsto;
Understandkey terminology aroundyoungpeoplein care.
Recognise issuesthat youngpeoplein care face.
Identify barriers, and explore solutionssoyoungpeople in care can participate.
The training will be delivered by Emma Gedzielewski, ProgrammeCo-ordinator/ Team
Leader at GMYN andYvonneThatcher, Social Worker at OldhamCouncil. Emma has
extensive knowledge aroundworkingwith youngpeople in care throughherown
experience. She hasworked with lookedafter children and care leavers for over 6 years
delivering an activity-basedprogrammeaimedat increasing youngpeople’sconfidence,
skills andreducing their social isolation. Yvonneis a qualified social worker workingin the
Permanence Team at OldhamCouncil. She qualified in 2013 andwasbased at the child
protectionteam, specialising in lookedafter children since 2016. Shehasalsoobtained
her Practice EducatorCertificate andtrains social work students.
