2. Past Simple
The past simple is one of the verb tenses present in
English. It describes those actions that took place at a
certain time in the past. The mention of the past refers
to actions that have already been carried out previously,
that is, they have already been carried out

3. Features
Among these we can highlight:
• Indicates the action peformed at a specific time in the past.
• The main verb of the sentence is always in the past tense.
• Has a simple “verb, subject and predicate” compassion.
• Is the only grammatical tense that uses verbs in the past
tense.
• Expressions that determine the time of the sentence can be
used in the predicate, although it will always be the verb that
indicates whether or not the sentence is in the past tense.

4. Applications
o It is used to refer to an event that occurrend in the past and usually
appears accompanied by a temporary expression that alludes to the
past “Yesterday and bought four books” (“Ayer compré cuatro
libros”).
o Actions that happened at a specific time in the past, either known or
implied.
o Action that started and ended in the past.
o Actions in the past that are not repeated in the present.
o Actions that happened at a specific time and have already ended.

Regular
In case of regular verbs we have to:
 If the verb ends in a consonant “ed” must be
added.
 If the verb ends in “e” only add “d” at the end.
 If the regular verb ends in “y” and said letter is
preceded by a consonant, the “y” must be
changed by the particle “ied”.
 If the last syllable of the verb is where the
accent falls and it is made up os consonant-
vowel-consonant, said consonant must be
doubled and then add “ed”.
 If the verb ends in “l” it must be duplicated and
add “ed”.

Irregular
 Irregular verbs are those that, to form the past
simple or the past participle ( compound
tenses) do not follow any norm, simply their
word changes completely.
 A very clear example is the auxiliary verb “do”
itself, since in the past simple it becomes “did”
and in the past participle “done”.
