The report summarizes the main results of the container and RORO
traffic analysis of the port of Ancona implemented by Isfort in the
project Intermodadria (activities 3.2 and 3.3).
The report was drafted with the support of the Development,
Promotion and Statistics Unit of Ancona Port Authority, that made
available the statistic records of the port and the results of the survey
on truck drivers embarking in the port of Ancona. The results of the
survey are included in this report.

Subsides are important to support Combined transport, but bureaucratic
and procedures facilitation are fundamental too.
Proposals by road transport operators:
1. Highway direct access to harbour gates (with reserved access roads to
the ships, dis/embrakment procedures (customs, inspections, etc.)
dedicated, slots for trucks and trailers available in every seasons);
2. Guaranteed transit time to join the ship and to dis/embark the truck or
trailer;
3. Legal framework stable;
4. Subsidy appropriate (and fixed) not only refund of costs but also
facilitations (permit to drive in the forbidden period).

1. Quay built taking into account Shipowners and Maritime Companies work
organization;
2. Port facilities really integrated to land logistics chain in order to supply
competitive services “door to door”
3. Speed up of bureaucratic procedures and reduction of jurisdiction conflicts
between the public and private bodies involved in maritime and customs
activities.
1. New engines / to reduce emission (retrofit)
2. Ships with two separate stairs for embarkment and disembarkment and
different side ways to roll on and to roll off trucks and trailers

The challenge for the Port is to find out a sustainable solution to
allow the trucks to join rapidly their land destination, without the
negative impacts for urban area (congestion and pollution)
Taking into account this scenario, the estimation of trucks and
trailers traffic development in the Port of Ancona is that the present
amount of 132.000 trucks/trailers (2013) will be doubled (around
250.000) in the 20301
Double of trucks&trailers in 2030
South West Europe and West Med Import-Export forecasts to 2030
show a strong increase of trade commerce between these areas
and Italy, Central and North West Europe
(7% for SEE and 4% for West Med per year)

EU subsidises “co-modality”, efficient use of the modes of
transport that work alone or according to multimodal integrated
criteria
The re-launch of Italian MoS (Autostrade del Mare 2.0) is oriented
to the support of intermodality with subsides for the whole
logistics chain (not only the reduction of ticket cost for maritime
transfer)
Ten-T networks (EU programme) and re-launch of
Motorways of the sea (National programme) as
opportunity to enlarge economic and labor impacts
The integration between truck and rail is a strategic solution, to
reduce the transit of trucks in the urban area, to introduce new
added-value services for road, rail, terminal and maritime
companies with positive impacts on labor and economic activities
in the Port.

  • 2. 20/08/2014 2 The report summarizes the main results of the container and RORO traffic analysis of the port of Ancona implemented by Isfort in the project Intermodadria (activities 3.2 and 3.3). The report was drafted with the support of the Development, Promotion and Statistics Unit of Ancona Port Authority, that made available the statistic records of the port and the results of the survey on truck drivers embarking in the port of Ancona. Highway direct access to harbour gates (with reserved access roads to the ships, dis/embrakment procedures (customs, inspections, etc.) dedicated, slots for trucks and trailers available in every seasons); 2. Guaranteed transit time to join the ship and to dis/embark the truck or trailer; 3. Legal framework stable; 4. Subsidy appropriate (and fixed) not only refund of costs but also facilitations (permit to drive in the forbidden period). Road freight transport company assessment

  • 24. 20/08/2014 24 The challenge for the Port is to find out a sustainable solution to allow the trucks to join rapidly their land destination, without the negative impacts for urban area (congestion and pollution) Taking into account this scenario, the estimation of trucks and trailers traffic development in the Port of Ancona is that the present amount of 132.000 trucks/trailers (2013) will be doubled (around 250.000) in the 20301 Double of trucks&trailers in 2030 South West Europe and West Med Import-Export forecasts to 2030 show a strong increase of trade commerce between these areas and Italy, Central and North West Europe (7% for SEE and 4% for West Med per year) 1 Technital, TRT e HPC, The Adriatic Gateway, 2012
  • 25. 20/08/2014 25 EU subsidises “co-modality”, efficient use of the modes of transport that work alone or according to multimodal integrated criteria The re-launch of Italian MoS (Autostrade del Mare 2.0) is oriented to the support of intermodality with subsides for the whole logistics chain (not only the reduction of ticket cost for maritime transfer) Ten-T networks (EU programme) and re-launch of Motorways of the sea (National programme) as opportunity to enlarge economic and labor impacts The integration between truck and rail is a strategic solution, to reduce the transit of trucks in the urban area, to introduce new added-value services for road, rail, terminal and maritime companies with positive impacts on labor and economic activities in the Port.
