Print Project:
Experiments
Amy Watson
Front Cover ProcessI began the experiment by collecting a picture of the legendary
Usain Bolt, and since he is a chapter of sport history, I thought first
hand that he would be the perfect cover for my experiment, also
known as Stamina. I saved a picture of Usain form the internet and
into my desktop files, ready to upload into Photoshop. I then
uploaded a fresh 12 by 16 cm (A4) page format in Photoshop,
ready to paste the picture for cut out process. I then imported my
picture of Usain onto the software and changed it into a layer that it
can move around ad not stuck still as a background. Then I copied
and pasted the picture through edit and placed it to an appropriate
scale, in other words, a good size. I then used the cut out tool to cut
out the figure of Bolt so that he appears behind a clear background
of another image. I then added a title in a bold font of IMPACT to
create a strong gesture and feeling within the cover, in other words,
make it feel strong and serious. Next, I imported another picture
from the internet for the background: a surge of energy that shows
the power and energy that surges through our muscles
(metaphorically). In the same font as the title of the experiment, I
added a quote from Usain, one of his most memorable to be exact,
along with a title that I came up myself including his nickname
Lightning Bolt. Once that was completed, I collected a copy of his
autograph and a lighting bolt png from the internet to show
everyone who he is and how important he is in the world of sport. I
then used the opacity tool in their settings to change the opacity of
the images so that they seem over lapping behind Bolt, this is
another way of showing everyone who he is and gives them a clue
if they don't know. Finally, I added a glow to the text as well as
uploading a barcode from the internet to give the magazine a level
of security. Last of all, I added a circle with a price in the middle to
make it cheap and fair for every sport lover to collect, as well as the
magazine’s issue to show this is the first of the Stamina kind. I then
saved it as a JPEG into my desktop files, ready to blog.
Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?I will incorporate a similar layout
to the cover of the experiment
because fashion magazines have
a similar trend to the way the
experiment turned out. I will also
use the bright colours to make it
stand out as well as a good
choice for the font style of the text
to make it look interesting and
unique. To improve, I could add
more texts and stories to make
the audience want to delve into
the magazine more.
Double Page ProcessTo begin the page spread, I knew that I
needed a double page format to add the
extras such as the poster and the news
page. So I clicked into InDesign and
uploaded a print style triple page spread,
but scrolled to the bottom to get only the
double pages that I needed. I then used
Photoshop, in a similar style to the cover
to make a promoted poster of one of my
favourite sporting legends: Andy Murray in
order to show everyone his significance in
the world of sports and champions. Once
that was complete, I saved it into my
document files in order to import it into my
page spread. Next, I used photoshop once
agin in the same style except adding in the
news text because if I were to import it
from a saved file, the text would go blurry,
and therefore, unable to read. So in
InDesign, I used the text and paragraph
tool tov organise it into a neat cross
section to make it fill in the glow box
appropriately. Once that was complete, I
then saved the format into the same file as
the cover in order to make sure it is safe
and secure.

What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
I will use the same
paragraph layout as in the
news area in order to
make space for other
parts of the format so that
nothing is squashed and
tight. I will also use some
form of promotion of a
famous person or product
to make everyone aware
of the purposed objective
and how it may have an
impact on yourself.
