Today being my first day of filming, everything that had been caught on camera was
completely unscripted, original, only part of today that was planned was the party.
Starting off, the only equipment I had in hand was an SLR camera I had borrowed from the
campus with not one, but two battery packs for in case. I wasn't after a full set up with
equipment due to the fact the campaign is meant to advertise the camera itself. And by the
theme being journey, it seemed like the best idea to only use the camera as if I’m collecting
my memories showing it’s a great way to look back on life.
Plenty of pictures were taken ready for the poster, not so many videos were recorded. But
there is decent footage to go towards the video, only thing is I’ll need more footage ready
for post-production. Luckily, I am after as many settings I can get rather than the one.

Heading out around six in the afternoon with my partner and dog for this photoshoot,
Mitzie and Keilan Ramsden, I originally had it in mind to take sparklers out with us hoping to
get some cool shots with the props as mentioned.
Starting from Hendon beach circling from Seaham and back, plenty of footage has been
taken for the Canon campaign video as well as the digital print. But there was a struggle. A
lot of the results didn’t really look the best due to it being hard to see what I was capturing.
It wasn’t so easy either using the camera lens zooming in and out as well as seeing whether
what I was recording was clear enough most ending up too blurry.
A lot of mess around with the filters went on as well whilst using the camera, but there as
well for some shots a setting would work for others it wouldn’t so recording in the dark
really wasn’t the easiest job. It was also annoying as well; the flash wouldn’t work for
recording videos. I did have a hunt around in the settings for the camera but couldn't come
across what I needed. Our solution though was to use the flash on our phones to then point
it where the camera was aiming. Wasn’t the brightest but still worked for close-up shots
better than seeing anything further ahead.
2. Using Mitzie as a dummy for half of these shoots, only inserted very few of what was
captured below you shall see what I meant with some working, but many didn’t.
Would probably help my case if I was able to mention the filters used for some of these
images but honestly, I cannot remember going through them all multiple times. Just to
showcase though, the one above worked as a practice image whereas...
Being too zoomed in Mitzie's head ended up being cut off. Plus, the whole image was
blurred, all of which I couldn’t tell till seeing the picture after it was taken.
3. Finding success in zooming out, this time all of her body is on show. Just not very clearly.
Once again it was difficult in figuring out where the focus was resting. Leading to the result
in this image.

Plenty of footage had been taken with a range of different sceneries giving a lot more
option to choose from rather than the footage all looking similar. Two others were with me
for the production as well, that being Keilan Ramsden and Katie McCirrick.
Starting from where we began, a few dummy clips and pictures were taken as I played
around with the filters on the SLR camera trying to figure out which worked best. But that
pretty much went on for the whole process of the day.
Wondering around Sunderland City Centre, near Sunderland empire was where we first
headed as we hunted around for graffiti. Purpose being, the focus on graffiti was for Katie’s
project as whilst I was capturing footage for mine, so was I.
4. Circling back, we ended up adventuring inside the bowling alley next to the cinema. An issue
that came with getting footage there though, the arcades were pretty crowded. Which
surprised us considering it was mid-day on a Sunday. With that, there wasn’t much we could
do plus was slightly tough to get around with the aim of not bumping into anybody.
Before heading home, pictures and videos had been taken whilst we wondered a few shops,
that including Poundland, Ryman's stationary and then finally HMV. Any final footage came
from us being on the bus as I captured a few shots there to end the day.

Using a different SLR camera as to usual, there was no filter option I could use as the choice
was either record a video or pick which filter you want for the image.
There wasn’t much to get recorded today, but I still got what I was after. That being a clip
with the lens pointing towards the window showcasing the outside world as it passes by
whilst travelling on a bus. Three in fact clips of that had been captured on video. After this, I
only have one more video in mind I want to get recorded before finally putting the camera
down for this project.
As I mentioned, there are three clips for the purpose of one action. Looking back at them, I
believe it may be best to rerecord the bus journey due to each shot having their own
individual, annoying, issue. With the first, the camera lens focused on the glass itself which
for one wasn’t what I was after. Plus, the window was quite dirty, then with the camera
focusing on the glass it gets pretty obvious.
The second could have resulted well, starting off better than the first attempted clip. But
the bus turned in at a bus stop. Giving only five seconds of motion from it slowing down
with another five seconds from the bus stopping altogether allowing passengers on and off.
Recording the third clip just before the vehicle left the bus stop, one of the civilians who got
on at that stop sat right in front of where I was sat. Which caused their right arm to appear
throughout the video alongside their reflection getting in the way of the camera shot also.
5. Since I still have time, I have found it may be best to redo the shot. No issues come of that
of course, won't take long to get the right clip I need.

Re-shooting yesterday's shot, this time no disruptions were caused mid shot leading to a clip
I am happy to include. With no causes for the video to become unusable, there is only one
little problem I have with the video recorded. That being, what was caught on camera. Not
living in a nice nor friendly neighbourhood, I basically was only able to get what I could. Still
useable, but not very pleasant.
That being the setting for basically the whole clip, as you can probably tell, not the best
setting for an advertisement. Luckily with what I have in mind, the focus isn’t on the clip
entirely. It is more of a backdrop.
