Magazine layout, flatplan and photoshop
1.
2. Initially, we looked at a couple
of Fangoria magazines for
inspiration as they made
horror magazines that could
aid us in our construction
process. This was one that we
looked back at a lot as it was
something that was really
intriguing and had eye-
catching features overall.
From this specific issue, we
liked the idea of a film strip so
we decided that we would use
this as inspiration for our own
product because we thought
that my adding this feature,
we could add other movies
that would help the audience
and readers identify our movie
within the same genre.
3. This was a flatplan I
designed to aid us in the
construction process of our
magazine. As you can see, I
added the film strip on the
left hand side of the cover as
we wanted the main to be on
the right hand side along
with all the cover-lines. We
also wanted our masthead to
stay on top as we wanted the
main image to be the focus
of the cover. We also decided
to keep the title of our film
just below the main image to
give them equal importance.
We followed common
conventions when designing
this flatplan such as the
advertisement of other
movies, other features and
images from real media
texts.
4. Here are some images showing the editing process of
our magazine. At first, we thought an image of half the
face would look effective as it would stand out due to
it being unique. However, in the first image, there was
a shadow being created which made the image look
less professional. We tried adding a film strip on the
side according to our flatplan however, this made it
worse and really distorted. We also added a graphic
and the title of our name yet this didn’t look cohesive.
We noticed that on the first image, the hair wasn’t in
place properly so we used the modify and clone tool on
Photoshop to get some of the hair and add some fake
one on the end. We then took another picture in the
same form but this still wasn’t as effective as a full
face image would be so we finally took a full face
image for our final product.
