Individual practice with peer evaluation
Identify emotions and manage an action plan
Diagnosis of the situation and the emotions it creates
The case portraits a misalignment between the sense of purpose and the actual situation or failing
to meet the expectations and responsibilities that come with being the neighborhood leader. Also,
there is a direct problem in the relationship with the neighbors because it seems that they are not
respecting the time and effort of the leader. Finally, it is assumed that the neighbors are not “open-
minded” people as one, and that can be an ad hominem fallacy, it would require to properly know
them to make such statement.
Action plan that helps you make decisions related to this situation
The most important thing is to assess if the purpose can be realigned with the current role and
situation that is happening. Also, it is noteworthy to mention that this is a temporal role that lasts
only for a year, if the sense of purpose is strong enough, it can be a resource of will strength to try
to fix the situation and keep pushing forward. With the prior into consideration, the following would
be to create a strategy to empower and engage the neighbors in the decision-making process and
the actions to solve the neighborhood problems, as well as to creating a proper schedule or
agenda to talk about and discuss them, to properly separate the personal life from the leadership
role. Lastly it would be of the utmost importance to create a support network with an in between
with the neighbors to have somewhere to go to when help and emotional support is needed.
