1. Delivery of the final project evaluated by
pairs
Review of the situation presented: The case presents a dire situation where the leader is under pressure
to address a set of complaints the community formulated. As a leader of my community, I need to ensure
they satisfaction on various areas such as the cleanliness of common areas, the lack of security and the
poor lightning in the neighborhood. The community is putting pressure to get these issues addressed and
I am under pressure as a leader.
Action plan to deal with the situation
Diagnosis of the situation and the emotions it creates: The community raised a set of
concerns, which are legitime. There is a need for the board to ensure the cleanness of the community the
issue of security and also the lightning. The concept of client centered is applicable in this context.
Therefore, there is a need of communication and exchange with the community to clarify the challenges I
am facing as a leader and the mean at my disposition to address the issues:
Self-diagnosis based on self-knowledge: According to the case described, I can infer that as a leader I
have been reactive. It seems that I was mainly focused on myself rather than being focused on the
community I served. Being patient is not enough as long as the community have many challenges and is
unsatisfied. I feel worn down and such condition depend on how I see the problem. The story I am telling
myself about the situation is what make me miserable. I feel in such condition a lack of focus on the
effective issue and a self-centered perspective
Self-diagnosis based on emotional intelligence: in this situation I can infer a lack of self-awareness.
Self-awareness is the ability to recognize and understand your moods and emotions and how they affect
others. In this situation as a leader my mood is about to affect the decision I will be making
There is also a lack of self-regulation. Self-regulation is the capacity to control your impulses and moods
and to think before acting. As a leader in this case there is a lack of resilience due to the community
insistence. This condition jeopardized the intrinsic motivation.
In this case presented the leader did not show some empathy for the community. No where did he
recognize the pain and suffering of the community because of the lack of cleanliness, security and
lightning.
Self-diagnosis based on social intelligence
Social intelligence call for patience, cooperativeness, confidence level, sensitivity, recognition of social
environment, tactfulness, sense of humor and Memory. The leader in this case was getting impatient and
2. close to resignation. His lack of social intelligence prevented him to have some empathy with the
community
Action plan that has a self-development element:
Self-knowledge: There is a need to have a better knowledge of himself. As such it is recommended to
have personality test such as the Myer Briggs, emotional intelligence and others psychological test.
The second step would be to identify his areas of improvement based on the test results and take the
action and practice needed to improve his emotional intelligence, his social intelligence and his resilience
Action plan that has a positive relationship element
He has to be an optimist. An optimist is someone who doesn’t underestimate difficulties but rather assign
them their proper valuation and create the necessary energy to overcome them (course). If he can’t change
immediately the conditions, at least he can change his attitude toward the challenge for the community
satisfaction.
Finally, he should better communicate with the communities and brainstorm to identify the bottleneck and
devise solution for implementation. In this case study, the leader seems to be woking alone to find the
solution instead of cooperating with the community members
