REFLECTING ON OUR ANSWERS TO
THESE QUESTIONS:
#Movies4MentalHealth
WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST THOUGHTS?
● We see it so much, it normalized
● Media doesn't show the healing process
● alot
● I feel like sexual violence is unfortunately often reduced to a plot device or
used for shock value
● It is easier to recall sexual violence depicted than it is the healing process.
● sometime they show healing but mostly not
● right, Caris? I can think of a bunch of examples where people are
"permanently damaged"
● Violence is becoming normalized over the year, whether it is to make the film
more dramatic or if its depicting the actual violence (say if it was in based on
a true story).

23. #Movies4MentalHealth
How might stigma
impact survivors of
sexual violence?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● They might feel like they can't speak about what happened to them
● It discourages most survivors from reporting or talking about it
● They are afraid to talk about it, report it
● It silences victims
● by having repeated offenses
● hey suffer alone
● Make them feel they have to watch what they wear, do
● it's a hard transistion mentally
● they cant even turn to family members because of stigma
