2. High School Markantun de Dominis Rab was founded as an independent institution on
November 15, 1962. It started its work as a Catering School with practical training.
It was named after Marko Antun de Dominis from Rab, a great figure of ecclesiastical,
philosophical and scientific thought.
The opening of the School was encouraged by the more intensive development of tourism and
the need for catering staff.

Two years before that, it operated independently as the Rab Regional School at the Opatija
Catering School.

3. Even today, we rely on the enrollment of students in the catering and tourism professions (waiter,
chef, pastry chef, tourism and hotel commercialist and hotel and tourism technician).
Over time, other programs were introduced, including the general grammar school from which most
of Rab's intellectuals are profiled, mechanical occupations (car mechanic, plumber, heating and air
conditioning installer) and salesman occupy a significant place in education.
But due to too few enrollments in some occupations, today we have only 4 programs (general high
school, hotel and tourism commercialist, waiter and chef).
The School rightly emphasizes the quality of catering staff who, through their education, have
contributed to the overall status of Rab's catering, tourism and hospitality on the island, but also
outside Croatia.

4. The school is actively involved in the entire life of Rab.We regularly participate in festivals,
regional, national and international competitions as well as international cooperation with
schools from the German cities of Kassel and Eschwege.
We have been involved in the processes of lifelong education in a timely manner, so the School
has been implementing additional education, retraining, training and advanced training programs
for several years.
Although our school is not so big, it does not keep us from being worse than some bigger
schools and that every year, we expand our knowledge, improve our education, but the
most important thing that we have a lot of fun.
In this school year in regular education the School has 11 classrooms, 155 students
and 31 employees.
