ODM Server Rules
ODM Decision Server Insights helps organizations makes proactive decisions in the business moment and
implement repeatable business outcomes by:
• Putting data and events into context to understand and evaluate how everything relates in real-time
• Applying analytics and business rules to gain the best possible insight to decide what is best
• Putting that decision into action where it is needed the most: in processes, applications and interactions

5. Context-aware Decision Automation - a few examples
A national airline monitors the journey of its customers,
pro-actively informing them of schedule changes and
compensating for any inconveniences.
Optimize the traveler experience
and proactively address and
mitigate imponderables?
A national railway company monitor their freight operations
to optimize fuel consumption, enable predictive
maintenance, facilitate re-planning and continuously inform
customers about reached milestone or unexpected delays.

operations and predict equipment
maintenance?
A global financial services firm wants to be aware of all
client activities across all channels – on premise, call
center, online, social media, etc. – to be able to better
serve their clients’ needs.
Make my advisors always-aware
of client activities and needs?
A payment processing organization tracks transactions,
establishes trends, detects patterns and predicts risks to
identify fraud situations, take appropriate actions and alert
the involved parties.
Detect more complex patterns of
fraud and update them faster?

The next generation of business rules are here to help manage the complexity of your ever-changing decision making logic. This release extends IBM’s industry leading Business Rules platform towards even simpler and more consumable social media style user interfaces, to allow users in every part of your business the ability to confidently act on automated operational decisions.
Meaningful operational decisions often occur on a massive scale with thousands, if not millions of repeatable interactions. Executing, and more importantly managing the full lifecycle of these policies requires sophistication and scale. A part of this lifecycle is simply the capturing and representation of these business policies from your business experts. Domain experts that are not IT specialists need to be able to use these tools to codify their hard-won expertise. The true representation of any enterprise, big or small, is the sum total of its business expertise which is captured in this operational decision management platform.
With consumer technology capturing new trends of collaboration, ordinary users expect the simplest possible interface to be the most effective at their jobs. Social media style tools have set the bar on simplicity. Simplicity does not mean the abdication of rigor – it means simplicity must include all the necessary safeguards needed for a robust enterprise strength system. The tools must satisfy the needs of users during both the design and execution time of these business policies. These changes must happen at the speed of business and yet be completely safe to ensure the right levels of governance.
Sense: Captures meaningful events across all channels, systems and devices
Build: Put data and events into context to understand and evaluate how everything relates
Decide: Apply the models, policies and best practices established by your subject matter experts
Act: Initiates and consistently Automates the next best action
Context: any information that can be used to characterize the situation of entities (i.e., whether a person, place, or object) that are considered relevant to the interaction between a user and an application.
Entity Context: Building an accurate representation of the entities and things that makes up an application context is critical for effective decision making.
Geospatial Context: Geo-location extends the opportunity for greater customer interactions and better operation management.
Historical Context: Only looking at the current moment is not sufficient to detect opportunities and risks. Interpreting historical data over hours, days or weeks is critical to evaluate your customers preferences and needs or the dynamics of your business operations.
Predictive: Relevance is critical to successfully engage opportunities and optimal operations heavily depend on forecasting and anticipation.

In addition, ODM Advanced’s rich time modeling, reasoning and analytics help you detect and respond to the most intricate patterns and trends.
Finally, ODM Advanced’s innovative global analytics allow you to extract valuable insights over populations of business entities in near real-time and leverage them to further optimize your decision models
Event
Think of an event as something that happens, or can happen. From a design point of view, an event is a specific action or measurement that occurred at a specific time and place.
Entity
Entities are concepts that have an identifier. Entities are composed of a set of properties and relationships to other concepts, and can inherit from existing concepts.
Something relevant to the business. Think of a Person entity, your Customer entity and your Employee can inherit common properties from the Person entity.
Agent
An agent in Decision Server Insights defines the business logic that is used to detect situations of interest.
Rule Agent
Written using the Rules language
Rule agents automatically manage the state for the accumulated events
A rule agent can include rules that query, filter, and correlate events from the past and use them to detect situations of interest
Java Agent
Written in Java
Any state needs to be maintained in an entity
Predictive Scoring Agent
Extension of the Java Agent with a built in API for invoking an SPSS Scoring Configuration
