2. The Hard Choice Go With It!
A) Ask the right question
Why am I doing this?
Be ruthlessly honest. Easiest person to deceive is ourself.
See PPT movie on all the various biases out there.
A decision nears. Examine my motives.
3. B) What story is there to tell years
from now? Can we honestly say we did the right
thing for all concerned?
View a hard discomforting choice today in light of the
future. This perspective many avoid. Pain for today may be
the only choice for a benefit for tomorrow.
The Hard Choice Go With It!
Examples
Fire an employee
Continue or end a relationship
Quit a job or retire early
Fired for telling the truth not due to a lie
Deny or approve a serious purchase
Start a family
Return to school
4. C) There exists a cautionary pause. Wait. Do not act. Once a
decision is made there is no going back.
Wait!
For believers
The peace of God has yet to occur
Another better alternative may open when we delay
Example: A neighbor had an oversize
annoying dog he let roam free into our yard. A
confrontation faced us. It posed a danger to
our small children. The next day we watched
as a stranger in a truck passed by. He got out,
called the dog to him, and drove off. He stole
the dog. Problem solved!
The Hard Choice Go With It!
5. D) Ask this penetrating question: Considering
1) My past experiences
2) Current circumstances
3) My future hopes and dreams
What is the wise thing to do?
What is wise for me to do may not be true for someone else.
Example:
Quitting my job may not be true for my close
friend who cautions otherwise.
Buying a house may be a wise thing for me but
not my brother or sister
The Hard Choice Go With It!
6. E) Ask this tormenting question:
What is the Loving Thing to Do?
Taken for granted today it seemed counter intuitive when spoken.
Love one another even as I have loved you…
This was spoken hours before his brutal tortuous crucifixion for the
salvation of his personal friends…for the salvation of the mankind.
The Hard Choice Go With It!
Love goes beyond touchy feel-good ha ha
festive endearment. Love suffers and
hurts. Love acts. It’s may cost us dearly.
There is no guarantee of it being
appreciated or reciprocated when done in
this life.
