9. Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated with fever caused
by the Salmonella typhi bacteria.
Family-Enterobacteriacea.
Gram negative bacilii.
Best grows at 37 C.

 Mary Mallon nicknamed Typhoid Mary- typhoid carrier & was
cook by profession, continued to spread typhoid for several
years through food she prepared

11. TREATMENT
 Non-Pharmacological treatments
 Activity – rest is helpful
 Soft digestible diet is preferable in absence of abdominal
distension and ileus
 Pharmacological treatments
 Antibiotic
 Corticosterois ( for severe typhoid fever)
 Antipyretics
 Diet - fluid and electrolytes should be monitored.
