Collects a set of facts organized to two or more
categories.
Measure parents disciplinary style.
Measure children's disciplinary style.
Examine the relationship between categories.
Correlation reveals relationship among facts.
Eg: More democratic parents have
children who behave better.
Correlation study does NOT dettermine WHY two
variables are related-just they are related.
Correlational studies are helpful in making
predictions.

Correlation cannot prove causation.
Democratic parents produce better
behave children
Do behaved children encourage parents to be
democratic
May be unmeasured common factor.
• Eg: good neighbourhood produce
democratic adults as well behaved children.
Doesnot mean they are not useful-correlation in
smoking(3min)
6. Correlation only shows strength of
relationships
Helpful for making prediction
They do not show the direction the relationship working.
The do not reveal if there is another variables that would
be causing the relationship.
