4. Bus topology is the simplest type of network. It
supports a small number of computers. In bus
topology all computers are connected to a
common communication medium, known as
bus( central wire).
5.
6. Simple and easy to use.
Requires a small length of cable to connect
computers.
Less expensive.
Easy to extend a bus, it allows more computers
to join network.
If one node fails, it does not affect the network.
Difficult to troubleshoot.
Only support small number of computers.
If number of computers increases, network
speed will slow down.
7. All computers in star topology are connected
with a central device called HUB. Star topology
is mostly used in client server networks.
8.
9. Easy to maintain and modify network.
Adding or removing computers can be done without
disturbing the network.
Findings faults become very simple.
Single computer failure doesn’t bring down whole
network.
If the central hub fails ,the entire network breaks
down.
More expensive.
Requires large length of cable to connect computers.
10. In this topology , each computer is connected to
the next computer with the last one connected to
the firs. Thus, a ring of computers is formed.
11.
12. Less expensive than star topology.
Every computer has equal access to the network.
Failure of one computer in the ring can effect
the whole network.
Difficult to troubleshoot.
Adding or removing computers effects the whole
network.
13. It combines the characteristics of star and bus
topologies. It consist of group of computers
attached in star topology. The group connected to
bus backbone cable. It is used for expansion of an
existing network.
14.
15. Support by several hardware and software vendors.
Provides point-to-point wiring for individual
segments.
Length of each segment is limited by the type of
cabling used.
If the backbone line breaks, the entire segment goes
down.
Difficult to configure and wire than other topologies.
16. In mesh topology every device in the network is
physically connected to every other device in
network. A message can be sent on different
possible paths from source to destination. Mesh
topology improve performance. It is mostly used in
wide area network.
17. Easy to troubleshoot.
If one links becomes unusable, it does not harm
the entire system.
It eliminates the trafic problems.
A full mesh network can be very expensive.
Very difficult to install and configure.
