ppt on types of topology
1. What is Topology?
The physical arrangement of components such
as computers and its peripherals and cables
required to set up a network is called a
topology
2. TYPES OF TOPOLOGY
Bus topology
Star topology
Ring topology
Tree topology
Mesh topology
4. Advantages/Disadvantages of Bus Topology
Advantages:
The bus is simple ,reliable in small network,
easy to use and understand
Requires the least amount of cable to connect
the computer and less expensive.
Easy to extend the main cable
Disadvantages:
Heavy network traffic can slow a bus
considerably
Difficult to troubleshoot a bus.
6. Advantages/Disadvantages of Star Topology
Advantages:
Easy to add /remove workstations by
upgrading hub and can be installed easily
It is easy to troubleshoot and isolate problem
Disadvantages:
More cabling is requird
The failure of hub will break down the entire
network.
8. Advantages/Disadvantages of Ring Topology
Advantages:
Cable faults can be easily located, thus making
troubleshooting easier
Ring network are moderately easy to install
Disadvantages:
Failure in cable breakdown the entire network
and adding/ removing of any devices requires
rewiring
10. Advantages/Disadvantages of Tree Topology
Advantages:
The failure of one workstation does not affect
overall network
It is supported by several hardware and
software vendors
Disadvantages:
It is costly and complex
It is more difficult to configure
12. Advantages/Disadvantages of Mesh Topology
Advantages:
Fault tolerence
Guaranteed communication channel capacity
East to troubleshoot
Disadvantages:
Difficulty of installation and reconfiguration
Cost of maintaining redundant link
