Kids today have a steady stream of social media, whether it’s Facebook,
YouTube, or other platforms, as part of their lives. The great internet
generation, compared to previous generations, is accustomed to
receiving information through these platforms.

2. In competing with social media in the classroom, teachers can fight fire
with fire. As distracting as social media could be, teachers can utilize
them in the classroom.
The best way of doing so is by first setting a good example for your
students. One might have an online presence that students can access.
A teacher should show students what a responsible netizen is by
promoting social media etiquette or netiquette.
The teacher is also allowed to connect with their class via social media.
This can be done by making a Facebook group just for the class and for
the specific subject. The teacher could then use it to remind students of
upcoming activities, and could even use this to share anecdotes
pertinent to the subject. Teachers can even create a page specifically for
the class if they choose to do so and promote student achievements
there.
Using this social media presence, teachers can also encourage a
student’s online activity such as blogging and vlogging. Give them your
opinion, feedback, and push them to be better purveyors of social
media content.
