Evolution of computer
1. EVOLUTION OF
COMPUTER
ABACUS (3500BC):
It was derive from the word ABACOS which means wooden frame Before
computers or even arithmetic using paper and pencil ,the ABACUS was the most
advanced device for crunching numbers.
NAPIER'S LOGARITHM(1642):
It was invented by John Napier .
2. PASCAL'S ADDING MACHINE (1642):
It was invented by Blesie Pascal .It was called the arithmetic machine and later
became known as the pascaline.
DIIFERENCE ENGINE (1822):
It was invented by Charles Babbage.It was an automatic mechanical calculater
designed to tabulate polynomical functions.The name derives friom the method of divided
difference ,a way to interpolate or tabulate functions by using a small set of polynomical
coeffiecients.
ANALYTICAL ENGINE (1842):
It was a proposed mechanical general purpose computer designed y English
Mathmatician and computer pioneer Charles Babbage .It was first described in 1942
as the successor to Babbage's difference engine , a designe for a mechanical computer .
TMC(1880):
TMC or tabulating machine was invented by Hherman Hollerith .It spwaned a class
of machines,known as unit record equipment , and the data proccessing industry.
MARK-1 COMPUTER (1937-44):
It was invented by Howerd A Aiken of Harverd University in collaboration .It was
a electro mechanical device.
ABC (1939-42):
ABC or Atanasoff-Berry Computer was the first automatic electronic digitl
computer.An early electronic digital computering device that has remained somewhat
3. obscure.
ENIAC(1943-46):
ENIAC or Electronic Numerical Integrater and Calculaterwas thebfirst electronic
general -purpose computer .It was turning complete ,digital and could solve a large
class of numerical problems through reprogramming .
EDVAC(1946-52):
EDVAC or electronic discrete variable automatic computer was one of the earliest
electronic computers .It was binary rather then decimal ,and was a stored program
computer .
EDSAC(1947-49):
EDSAC or electronic delay storage automatic calculater could add two numbers in
1500 micro sec. and multiply them in 4000 micro sec.
UNIVAC(1951):
UNIVAC or universal automatic computer was build by Sperry Rand Ccorporation.
