St. Mary’s University was
founded in 1852 by the Society
of Mary (Marianists). It is the
oldest Catholic university in
Texas and the Southwest.
Our campus is located
northwest of downtown
San Antonio, Texas, the
seventh largest city in the nation.
Residence Halls
Twelve residence halls are primarily suite-style,
and co-ed by floor or wing. They are all
wireless and have free cable.
Faculty
The student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1 and the
average class size is 17. Ninety-three percent
of the faculty hold a Ph.D. or equivalent
terminal degree.
Enrollment
There are about 2,440 total undergraduates
and 1,670 graduate and law students.
Student Life
Students are involved in more than 80 clubs
and organizations, including cultural clubs,
greek organizations, academic societies, and
intramural sports.
Rattler Athletics
St. Mary’s has 11 NCAA Division II
intercollegiate athletic teams, including men’s
baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis,
and women’s basketball, golf, soccer,
softball, tennis and volleyball.

Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents must show a level of
scholastic achievement that would indicate ability to succeed in an academic program
at St. Mary’s. Applicants should submit the following documents:
• Application form for admission
• Official secondary school and/or university transcripts with Credential Evaluation
• National examination scores, if applicable
• Official TOEFL/IELTS scores
• Official SAT/ACT scores (Optional)
• A letter of recommendation by a school official
• A personal essay
St. Mary’s scholarship program is designed to recognize outstanding achievement. Partial
scholarships range from $5,000 to $18,000 USD per year. Students are considered based on
their application for admission. SAT and ACT scores are used for scholarship consideration.
Admission Process
TOEFL or IELTS
International applicants whose native languate is not English are required to submit
official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The following are the required
minimum scores:
• Internet-based TOEFL: 80
• IELTS: 6.0
• Paper-based TOEFL: 550
• Computer-based TOEFL: 213
