Percent is a fraction.
1. In percentage the bottom will always be 100 no matter
what is the top number.
2. Percent in fraction 13% = 13/100

In two successive tests a student gains marks of 57/79 and 49/67. Is the
second mark better or worse than the first?
8. Solution SQ#1
57x100%/79 NUMERATOR always be multiplied with 100%
Part 1:
Hence 57x100=5700
Then 5700/79% in fraction
In decimals 72.15%
Part 2:
49/67
Similarly: 49x100%/67

9. Sample Question #2
In a machine shop, it takes 32 minutes to machine a certain part. Using
a new tool, the time can be reduced by 12.5%. Calculate the new time
taken.
10. Solution SQ#2
First calculate the 12.5% of the 32 minutes
12.5% will change after the replacement of new tool. It means it will
work faster.
12.5%x32/100=4 (reduced time)
Subtract the 12.5% from 32 minutes in order to know how much time it
will take.
32-4=28 minutes will take instead of 32 minutes due to new tool.
