3. ANATOMY OF TONGUE
Motor Supply:
Supply of muscles
All muscle of tongue supplied by Hypoglossal CN 12 except
Palatoglossus which supplied Vago Accessory complex.
Sensory supply:
Responsible for Special sensation Taste & General sensation
Temperature
General sensation of anterior ⅔ of tongue supplied by CN 5
Trigeminal & Special by CN 7 Facial Nerve.
G. sensation & Special of Post. ⅓ supplied CN 9
Glossopharyngeal Nerve.
G. sensation & Special of Post. most tongue supplied by CN
10 Vagus Nerve.
5. EPIDEMIOLOGY TONGUE CANCER
The incidence of the tongue cancer are
most common in men as compared to
women. The tongue cancer are most
common in white people then black
people.That can develop lifetime incidence
the oropharyngeal and oral cavity cancer.
6. INTRODUCTION
Tongue cancer divided into 2 type these are:
1. Oral Tongue Cancer:
The squamous cell carcinoma of the Oral cavity
which mainly affect the front ⅔ of the Tongue is
called OTC.
1. Oropharyngeal Tongue Cancer:
This type start in the back side of the mouth and
progress into the throat and affect here also.
The 1st type is most common but with good
prognosis As compare that 2nd type are less
common but poor prognosis.
9. CAUSES/RISK FACTORS
1. Cigarette Smoking
2. Alcohol Drinking
3. Other Kind Tobacco Use
4. Jagged Teeth
5. Non Care Of Teeth
6. Secondary Injuries
7. DNA Abnormalities
8. Human Papilloma Viruses
9. Other Secondary Inflamation
10. SYMPTOMS
1. Worsening pain near to the tongue
2. Change in the voice
3. Hoarseness of sound
4. Feel trouble in swallowing
5. Loss of appetite
6. Loss of general and special sensations
7. Loss of taste and temperature
8. Redness or Swelling
9. The pain are discomfort go to back to the oral cavity
11. DIAGNOSES
1. General examination
2. X-Ray
3. CT Scan can take scan from different angles
4. Tissue biopsy
5. Other microscopic examination
6. Blood examination
7. Other oral cavity parts
12. TREATMENT
1. Depend on localization of tumor or malignancy
2. Surgical removal of tumor if it is in the front of the
tongue
3. Here can check the lymph nodes also
4. If the cancer tumor or malignancy are back in the
oral cavity then Radiation therapy
5. Some time with combination with Chemotherapy
6. Also use of anticancer drugs like Carboplatin & 5-
FU sometime use Cisplatin,5-FU & Dectaxel.
