After the incidents with American ships,
Jefferson believed that if the U.S closed its
export trades to European countries, they
would be forced to agree to respect our
rights because they relied on U.S raw
materials.
He thought it would be a new way of
conducting foreign affairs. ~ To Jefferson’s
surprise it actually caused suffrage to the
American Economy.

5. INTERCOURSE ACTS
After Jefferson, Madison decided to proceed
with his idea, but doing so a little less
excessively, where America could trade with
France but still not Britain.
Britainjust realized they could do just fine
without American imports.
