Editor's Notes
Hello student aaj hum is chapter me magnets ke baare pdege
but Before starting the lecture I would like to ask something to you?
May be you have seen heap of waste material,
Hota kya hai ki in waste material ke heaps me, heaps mtlb kude ke bda dher, me kuch heaps (dher) aise hote hai jisme kuch different type of materials hote hai like plastic, wood, polythene and iron scrap etc.
Now the question is
If there are iron objects present in a heap of waste material, then how is scrap iron separated from the heap?
In these picture you are seeing the machine is known as crane.
scrap iron is separated from the heap of waste materials by using these machines i.e. crane, there is a big Magnet fitted to an end of crane.
When such crane is lowered on to the heap of waste materials, then the scrap iron objects present in the heap, cling(stick) to the Magnet.
The crane is then moved up and away to drop these scrap iron objects at a separate place
Agr aap logo ko reality me dekhna hai ki ya kaise hota hai toh maine ye 4 type ki videos hai jinki links ko is video ke description me di hai wha se dekh lena
In these videos you will see how scrap iron is lifted from one place and drop to other place
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQA5VDXE7ts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSmuqLtmuwg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBWy9gzGGd4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mxTQ62PJJs
Now let me tell you about pin holder, do you know how magnetic pin holder works?
There is magnet inside that box and because of that pins stick or cling to magnetic pin holder.
Iski bhi ek youtube ki hi ek video hai achchi hai I will suggest ki aapp log dekho or ghar pe magnetic pin holder bnnane ka try bhi kro agar possible ho toh
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GyYL_fScvg
In both example we use a word is magnet because of magnet crane was able to separate the iron objects and iron pins cling to the pin holder.
So the question is ,what is exactly a magnet?
Magnet is the substances having the property of attracting iron.
Now again who discovered this substance i.e magnet?
There is a story about a shepherd named Magnes who lived in Magnesia, in ancient Greece.
Megnes was herding his sheep through the mountains.
Suddenly he noticed the metal cap of his stick and nails in his sandals got stuck to a rock.
he began digging and discovered the first recorded lodestone.
from this ,Lodestones were known as “magnetite,” probably named after Magnes or Magnesia.
Iski bhi ek YouTube pe ek animated video hai,I have given link in description so same thing which I told you here, you can watch there also
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8jvd9FX0OI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNZEBDFv3YU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRpLvSvypJs
So magnet are available in two form i.e natural and artificial
Here are some examples of natural and artificial magnet
Natural Magnet found in nature. Where as Artificial magnet made by man
Natural magnets are weaker as compared to artificial magnets.
Natural magnets are permanent magnets while artificial magnets are temporary or permanent magnet.
There are also some materials which get attracted towards magnet and certain materials which do not get attracted.
So we can categories all materials into two ways that is magnetic and non magnetic material
The materials which get attracted towards a magnet are magnetic material and which do not get attracted are non magnetic
Nickel, Iron or Cobalt are examples of magnetic material. Aap log ise (NIC) ke naam se bhi yaad rkh skte hai.
plastic, gold, silver are non magnetic material.
Now let me ask you some questions
Iron nail- is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec
Magnetic
Glass-is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec
Non Magnetic
Aluminum Can-is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec
Non Magnetic
Cobalt knife-is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec

Copper coin- is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec
Non Magnetic
Silver coin- is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec
Non Magnetic
Nickel coin- is a magnetic or non magnetic ?
Take a pause for 2sec

Now the most curious question
Is Steel Magnetic material?
Nearly all steel you find or see is not a magnet.
However, steel could be manufactured to be made into a magnet.
That why Steel is know as ferromagnetic material
So till now we have understood about
So till now we have understood about
What is magnet?
How magnet is discovered?
And the last one is
Difference between magnetic and non magnetic materials
Ab hum magnet ki property ke baare me pdenge but usse pehle poles of magnet kya hota hai use smjhte hai so
To understand poles of magnet, first take iron filings which are small pieces of iron that look like a light powder)
Now bring a magnet bar near to iron filing, what we see, more iron filings get cling at the end of bar magnet as compare to the other region of magnet.
It means there is the region at each end of a magnet where the magnetic power is the strongest which is known as poles of magnet
So Magnets have two poles, they are north pole (N) and south pole (S).
Now the question is How to determine the poles of an unmarked magnet
So When a bar magnet is suspended to move freely, it always points in the north-south direction. The north pole of the magnet points towards the north and the south pole of the magnet points towards the south.
hence A magnet has two poles, viz. north pole and south pole.
When two magnet bring towards each other then like pole repel each other and unlike poles attract each other.
Like poles repel each other. This means when north pole of a magnet is brought near the north pole of another magnet, both repel each other. The same holds true for the south poles of two magnets.
Unlike poles attract each other. This means when north pole of a magnet is brought near the south pole of another magnet, both attract each other.
So there are two mainly properties of magnet
A freely suspended magnet always points in North-South direction.
And the second one is
2. Like poles repel each other and Unlike poles attract each other.
Here are very interesting videos available on YouTube about magnet, I will suggest you to watch these videos after this lecture,
Links are given in description
So till now we have understood about
What is poles of magnet?
How to determine the poles of an unmarked magnet
Interaction Between Poles of Magnet
And the last one is properties of magnet
Now the question can I make magnet at my home
Yes definitely here are some steps
Take a iron nail, place it on the flat surface.
Now take a bar magnet and place one of its poles near one edge of iron nail.
Without lifting the bar magnet, move it along the length of the iron nail till you reach the other end.
Move the magnet again along the iron nail in the same direction as you did before. Repeat this process about 30-40 times.
Bring a compass near the iron nail to check whether it has become a magnet. If not, continue the process
The property of a freely suspended magnet always points in
North-South direction is used to find direction at unknown places.
Later on, a device was developed based on this property of magnets. It is known as the compass.
It is said that in olden days, travellers used to find directions by suspending natural magnets with a thread, which they always carried with them.
Later on, a device was developed based on this property of magnets. It is known as the compass.
So lets see the first compass pointed to the south,
There is a such interesting story about an emperor in China named Hoang Ti. It is said that he had a chariot with a statue of a lady that could rotate in any direction. It had an extended arm as if it was showing the way.
The statue had an interesting property. It would rest in such a position that its extended arm always pointed towards South. By looking at the extended arm of the statue, the Emperor was able to locate directions when he went to new places on his chariot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JxHefqiLRM
I have given the video link of this, where you can see more clearly a chinese chariot with a figure mounted on top, forever pointing towards the south irrespective of which way the chariot is heading.
After finishing this lecture check it out.
So because of the property of a freely suspended magnet always points in North-South direction we came to know about a device is know as compass
So what is compass?
The compass is an instrument to find the directions at a place.
Compass me kya kya parts hote hai wo bhi thoda sa jaan lete hai or fir uske baad compass ke uses and then ye fun with magnet chapter aapka complete ho jayega
So compass me ek magnetic needle hoti hai which can rotate freely on pin.
The compass has a circular dial with various directions marked on it.
Needle or dial ye dono ek brass box me enclosed hote hai
Now uses of compass so
1)Compass is used by soldiers in the jungle to find direction for their movement.
2)The compass is also used by sailors while at sea so as to take their ships in the right direction.
So till now we have understood about
How to make magnet at home
And then story behind The first compass pointed to the south
What is Compass?
Construction of compass
And the uses of compass
So ye chapter aapka complete hota hai
