2. Teacher Education
Teacher education or teacher training refers to the policies, procedures
and provision designed to equip teachers with the knowledge, attitudes,
behaviours and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the
classroom, school and wider community.

It is a continuous process.
It is broad and Comprehensive.
It is evolving and dynamic prepare teachers who are competent to face challenges
of the dynamic society.

6. Nature and Concept of Teacher Education curriculum at
primary, secondary, B.Ed and M.Ed level
Teacher education is a program that is related to the development of teacher proficiency and
competence that would enable and empower the teacher to meet the requirements of the
profession and face the challenges therein. Teaching skills include training and practice in the
different techniques, approaches and strategies that help the teacher to plan and impart
instruction, provide appropriate reinforcement and conduct effective assessment. Pedagogical
theory includes the philosophical, sociological and psychological considerations that enable the
teachers to have a sound basis for practicing the teaching skills in the classroom. Professional
skills include the techniques, strategies and approaches that help teachers to grow in the
profession and also work towards the growth of the profession.
7. Broad Curricular Areas in Teacher Education
1) Foundations of Education which include courses under three broad :Child Studies, Contemporary
Studies and Educational Studies.
2) Curriculum and Pedagogical Theory which include courses under two Curriculum Studies and
Pedagogic Studies
3) Internship leading to the development of professional capacities and skills.
