Generation of ideas
Name and logo:
• Tempo
• Pulse
• Motif
Colour scheme: There will be different shades of red and the colour white in order to
contrast and make the application look professional.
Target audience: is going to be aimed at those in secondary school (11-18) but the
application will be suitable for older years as well (18+).
App features: I am aiming to have a variety of features that are simple but effect when used
in schools.
Convergence: Mobile and Desktop so that the application can be used by multiple users at a
time.
Competition: My competition will be Frog education which is used across the UK by
students and teachers which provide options to see up-coming events.
Synergy: Images and videos will have links that can be viewed by users to remind them
about events taking place at school.
Application design

Friends icon: the user will
be notified and able to see
if a friend is on the
application. The drop
down arrow allows the
user to access the friends
section.
Settings: by clicking on the
settings icon the user will be
able to view a pop up menu
that will appear on the
current page allowing the
user to decide what they
want to change or re-
configure on the application.
Home page icon: allows
the user to go back to
the applications home
page and view other
options.
Search icon: gives the
user the option to search
for different songs and
add them to a playlist.
list icon: helps the user
to easily access their
playlists and other music
when their ready.
radar icon: gives the user
to option to view a life like
map of the earth allowing
them to see their friends
and view when their also
on the app.
Speaker icon: allows
user to mute music.
Link icon
The link icon allows the users to link their
devices such as phones, IPads and IPods in
order to play music simultaneously. This key
and unique feature would be best useful for
parties as it would allow the users to play
the same song at the same time therefore
amplifying the sound. This avoids mixed-up
music that takes hours to set up which
would make it very popular for the younger
generation aged 15 – 25. The feature would
have a password that allows the Host to
keep their phones from linking to unwanted
phones such as people walking past the
users home.
Radar icon
Tempo is providing the public with an easier
and more useful way to communicate with
friends and interact with them using the
application. The Radar icon allows the user to
view when friends are also using the app and by
clicking on their avatar the user is able to send
and receive songs from another user. The songs
can only be sent and received by Touch ID
giving only the user the ability to control what
songs they want to listen to and sent to other
users.

Tempo – personal assistance for music
• The main purpose of the application and website is to give the target audience which in this
case is secondary school students, a chance to use music in a different and easier way. By
doing this the users will be able to use and access thousands of songs from almost any
where in the world.
• Target audience: will be people aged from 18 – 25 who enjoy listening to music and want a
easy way to access their music without using Wi-Fi or mobile data.
• Convergence access ability: mobile, apple watches and Desktop application allowing all
users to easily listen to music using multiple devices.
• Colour scheme: The colours that I have chosen to use are shades of grey, white and red.
These colours provide a great contrast helping to guide the user to each feature and the
shades of red provide a soft coloration unlike any harsh colours.
• Applications features: The application “Tempo” will have a timer that allows the user to set
a specific time such as 10:00pm and the application will stop playing music and save the
phones battery. This will be best suited for users who love to sleep while listening to music
but don’t want their phone battery to be drained.
• Synergy: all songs that have been listened to by the user can be shared with friends on the
same application, helping both users to interact with each other and keep up to date with
the latest music.
Audience theories
• Hartley: Fictions of the audience allows a brand or a company to grab a sense of who their
product will be sold to. Because of this it allows the brand and company to have a target
audience that they can aim their product towards to ensure that the product will be effective
and efficient. Regarding this to “Tempo” the target audience would be secondary schools
students aged between 11-18 although the features and easy use can allow 18+ users such as
teachers to use the application. For Pulse, however the target audience is primarily aimed at
users aged from 18-25+ as the design and colour scheme appeals more to the older generation.
The soothing colours of blue and grey help to attract the attention of older users through its
strong contrast and professional features.
Katz: Theory is to focus on the audience instead of
the actual message that is portrayed across. An
example of this would be “what people do on
applications” instead of “what applications do to
people” and by doing so the center of the product
should be to make it relevant to the target
audience as much as possible therefore
encouraging them to buy it instead of buying the
next best thing.

effects-on-audiences/
Audience theories continued
• Maslow: The Maslow theory indicates that audiences are attracted to
media that satisfy their needs and this can be seen in texts and images
over social media. Maslow’s hierarchy illustrates different circumstances
that can occur in everyone's daily lives while social media provides a
distraction that can please the viewer/reader. Regarding Tempo, the
application will most likely be used the most during schools as the
application provides an easy use of features and doesn't require a
computer unless the user wishes to use the website. Because of this the
features will be designed to satisfy the user through smooth movements
and easy access without problems.
• Socio-economic: The socio-economic needs suggest that certain people have
higher paid jobs and because of this it determines what group they are in.
For example, “Upper class” workers who are typically professional lawyers
will roughly be earning £50,000+ while a lower socio-economic group such
as group E are normally students or casual workers who are earning from
£5,000 – £7,000. For Tempo the website and application will be aimed at
the group E audience as students and causal workers will be able to access
the website and application with easy access. However due to the website
and application being mainly a music based media product it is possible
that it will relate to almost all the groups.
Conclusion
• I have chosen “Tempo” as my final product idea as I believe that it is the
best application and website that can be used by the biggest target audience
ranging form 16– 25+. Furthermore, the application and website layout is
very simple and easy to follow by any student and casual worker making it
useable by almost anyone. As well as having the ability to listen to any song
without WIFI or mobile data the target audience is secondary school
students who want easy access to music. I have drawn drafts of the
application and website in order to help demonstrate and visualize the
application and website.
