2. Narrative
Thriller- Two detectives suggests the thriller genre through
them looking into a case which results in them being
caught up in it and therefore are in danger.
There are a number of crime elements in this film which
are suggestive of crime genre such as the tape on the
door to show that an offence has occurred which there are
two detectives solving this crime. This is shown from a
close up of the tape and the two detectives working at
their desks.
3. Characters
Two characters one being the more pushy character trying to
carry on the story when the other wants to stop. This is show
in the beginning of the trailer where he suggests the “story’s
just begun”. Particularly used in thrillers is this type of
character representation. One character is usually doubtful
about a certain situation but the other character tends to
persuade that character to do go through with it anyway. The
way the characters are running towards the end of the trailer
adds to the suspense and signifies the narrative becomes
more intense. This also represents the characters as
becoming frantic.
4. Setting
This is set in an suburban environment which can be used in a number of different
genres. This is shown through the establishing shot in the beginning of the trailer
which shows a house surrounded by grass and trees so is therefore suburban.
Later on in the trailer they are running through a forest so this supports the
suburban setting.
5. Iconography
The countdown of time in the corner, along with the ‘ticking’ sound, adds to the
intensity of the trailer, which helps establish the thriller genre.
The blood on the character at the end of the trailer makes the film more dramatic,
and emphasises a theme of violence, which helps to establish the thriller genre.
The caution tape is something which is commonly used in thriller and crime
genres because it shows where something has happened and people are
therefore investigating it.
6. Style
There is a number of elements of style in this trailer. Close up shots in this trailer
are used commonly to set an uneasy mood for the audience which is common for
the thriller genre. Things such as the close up of the eye creates an uneasy
feeling for the audience and that in his eye he looks distressed. The editing also
becomes fast paced at the end of the trailer to create more suspense, which is
very common for a thriller.
