1. Question 2- How effective is the
combination of your main product and
ancillary tasks?
2. The Theme:
We wanted to overall theme of our products to be fun
and easy going- by that, I mean, we wanted people to
watch our video and have a smile on their face, we
wanted people to go on the website, and not feel
doomy and gloomy, and we wanted people to buy the
album, to listen to when their feeling down, to lift their
spirits.
We wanted to create a 90’s vibe coming from our
products, by using a happy and upbeat song. As soon
as I and Connor decided to work together, we decided
we wanted to create a retro theme which we attempted
to create within out preliminary video, which was rather
doomy and gloomy and this is why we decided to go
for the complete opposite.
3. The Video
In my opinion, the biggest aspects for us was perfecting
the costume-which for me, was a 90’s denim jacket,
converse shoes, and a yellow t-shirt, in order to create a
retro feel. We also had to pick the perfect overlay which
has yellow/ green undertones, which brought out the
green in the woodland scenes, this made the video
seem more surreal, taking viewers back to the 90’s.
We really liked the cloning and hand-drawing effects
within the video, to reinforce the modern features.
Additionally, we used the hand-drawing effects
throughout our ancillary tasks too, to create our
‘foreigner’ logo on the merchandise and front cover, and
also hand-writing text font on the website.
We wanted to make it bright and fun so the audience
could immerse themselves into the video and have a fun
joyful smile when it finished and also have a realisation
that everything they just saw, was a dream.
4. The album
When creating the album, Me and Connor still wanted to keep the
happy upbeat feel, so we decided to use bright colours such as the
sky background, and a simple design of the foreigner logo. We
wanted to keep the 90’s feel and so used a retro font and placed a
Polaroid style picture on the back of the album.
Although we created a vinyl, which takes the audience back to the
90’s, we also decided to add a download code to maintain a modern
style.
We decided to make the vinyl gold in order to seem fun and add a
pop of colour. We used similar colours of our music video overlay.
We also added postcards with the pictures linking to the song title.
We created 3 postcards each signed by the band and featured
pictures on the back. We created a double sided leaflet. One side
featuring the credits and another side stating the thankyou’s for
buying the album.
5. The Website
Personally, the website was my favourite
product to create. We used a GIF
background , which we took inspiration off
two door cinema club’s website, the clips we
used to create the GIF included oranges and
yellows creating an indie look. Throughout
the website, we used a constant hand writing
font effect which we have maintained
throughout all of our products. We also
included the links to each of our social media
sites and a contact us section on our website
so we could connect with our audience.

l
Throughout, I felt Me and Connor
successfully created a 90’s theme, through
creating a vinyl, and adding vintage overlays
and aimed to create a happy and upbeat feel
for the products. Recreating a 90’s theme
was difficult so research into 90’s music
videos and style, was a key part in creating
our products.
