3. The image
v The image consist of a close-up of the films protagonist which
creates a very dramatic effect because his features are extremely
detailed. His major close-up suggests that he is calling for help as
the character is looking directly at the camera. Also, the extreme
close-up of the protagonist captivates the audiences attention
because the actor is very well known which is an important
method of advertising as the actor has a fan base which already
provides the film with an audience.

4. The image
v The background of the image is very haunting which reinforces the films
genre of horror. The film focuses on a ghost haunting the main character
which is conveyed in the poster which summarises the film. The ghostly
face is blended in to the grey background which creates an eerie effect
which could make the audience feel the ghost is watching them as well. The
image could be symbolic for the movie as the ghost is always watching him,
even when he cannot see her.
5. The tag line
v The tag line on the poster is a rhetorical question asking the audience “Do you
believe in ghosts?” which goes against the conventions by asking the audience a
question in which is a daunting one to answer. The subject of ghost plays with the
conventions of horror as ghosts are a commonly used source for that genre. The
tag line is written so it is almost blending in with the background which refers to
ghosts being transparent and never really there.
v I am fascinated by the poster questioning the viewer so the tag line on my poster is
asking my audience a rhetorical question; “What if the next book you read is all
about you”. It is important to put the audience into the position of the
protagonist, especially in the subject of horror, when the character is usually
vulnerable.
6. The title
v The title; “The woman in black” appears quite vague
which promotes mystery as the audience does not know
much about the ‘woman’. The title is capitalised and
bold creating a sense of urgency and it is also large to
draw attention to the film. The white colour of the title
contrasts with the darkness of the background. Behind
the title is a blurred outline of a woman with her mouth
slightly open which suggests that she is the ‘woman’ and
this spooky effect establishes the genre of horror. The
title looks as if it is coming out of her mouth which
demonstrates that she is the cause of the negativity and
haunting in the movie.
7. The actors name
v The main character of the film is played by Daniel Radcliffe; a
famous actor. His name is written at the top of the poster to
interest audiences into watching the film as he is very well known
by most audiences. The films that he has been in surround the
genre of horror and fantasy which has the power to intrigue and
entertain his already established fan base. The name is featured
because he plays the protagonist of the movie, therefore he is in
most scenes in the film and deserves attention for his role..
