INTRODUCTION
The SCERT (The State Council of Educational Research and Training) is the
parallel organization to the NCERT that look after the quality of education at the state
level. In this assignment I go through the major function of SCERT. The SCERT is
directly concerned with the in-service programs for Secondary School teachers. Also,
they conduct research studies, the findings of which are transmitted to teachers for
making their work dynamic.
SCERT
This council designs programs for updating knowledge and skills in various
aspects of education for secondary school teachers and teacher educators in the TTIs and
provide guidelines for the programs to be organized by the DIETs. It also develops
curricula for schools, prepares handbooks and other instructional materials for teachers,
to enable them make instruction materials for teachers, to enable them make instruction
modern and technology oriented. The major function of SCERT is given below.
1. To organize in-service training of teachers and orientation of supervisors/
inspecting officers dealing with pre-school, Elementary secondary and Higher
Secondary Education.
2. Conduct of in service training of
i. Teacher-Educators working in Teacher training institute.
ii. Teachers at all stages of education from pre-school to higher secondary.
3. To arrange appropriate programs for the overall professional development of
teachers, teacher educators and supervisors / inspecting officers.
4. To provide extension services to teacher training institutions at all levels in the
state.
5. To coordinate the work of extension service centers of the teacher training
institutions in the state.

6. To prescribe the curriculum and Textbooks for the Teacher-Training Institutions
at the pre-schools and Elementary stages.
7. To produce instructional materials for use of teacher educators at the secondary
and Higher Secondary stages.
8. To conduct action research and school surveys on various problems of education
at the level of primary to Higher Secondary and in the training of teachers.
9. To achieve universalisations of Elementary Education and maintain quality
education by using electronic media of all kinds.
10. To undertake specific projects at all levels of education and alo works /
assignments a entrusted to it by the Government from time to time.
MAIN ACTIVITIES OF SCERT
1. Population Education

Training programs on teacher education of District resource person.
2. Preparation and production of Academic materials
Publication of annual bulletin
Seminars on present status of curriculum and syllabus.
3. Teacher Training and Extension Services
Workshops for development of Training modules teacher guide books
Study tours for teachers training programs.
4. Educational Technology
Training programs on educational technology for school teachers.
Workshops are on Educational Media script Writing.
Broadcasting of Educational programs through All India Radio.
5. Improvement of Science and Math
Orientation programs on the teaching of science and Mathematics at
Secondary stage.

Workshops on sensitization of carrier masters.
Programs on carrier talk.
CONCLUSION
Through this we can conclude that SCERT is to establish a child’s profile
of developmental strengths and needs. It determines meaningful, purposeful and
motivating goals and objectives based on a child’s profile and function needs. Select the
most appropriate learning contexts and teaching strategies. It determines the necessary
transactional support. So SCERT plays an important role in Educational system of each
state.
