Using the example of Tyne & Wear Museum's Cultural Shock project, this session looks at how to engage audiences in digital storytelling projects within the museum and heritage sector. Lessons learnt about how to adapt the process to suit different groups will be shared, alongside an overview of the process and equipment needed to run your own successful project.

What is Culture Shock? <ul><li>a project of the North East Regional Museums Hub (NERMH) led by Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums </li></ul><ul><li>in partnership with Culture Unlimited </li></ul><ul><li>Funded by the HLF, NERMH, Gillian Dickinson Trust, Tyne and Wear Business Partners </li></ul>

What is Culture Shock? <ul><li>a two year digital storytelling project that is building upon the extensive and varied collections held by partners to explore the diverse heritage of individuals, groups and communities living in the North East of England. </li></ul><ul><li>a project that aims to collect 1000 stories from North East residents, working with community groups and communities of interest </li></ul>
  • 6. What will happen to the stories and how will they be used? <ul><li>They will be accessioned into the museums collections. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be online on the Culture Shock website. www.cultureshock.org.uk </li></ul><ul><li>They will be used in exhibitions for alternative and additional interpretation of objects and artworks. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be used as a tool for contemporary collecting and to help fill gaps in the museums’ collections. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be added to relevant loans and handling collections. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be screened in public places throughout the project. </li></ul><ul><li>The project will culminate in a touring exhibition of stories and their related museum objects to project partner venues in the North East. </li></ul>
