Essay on The Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes was one of the most important writers and thinkers of the
Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s, which was the first major movement of African
American life and culture. Hughes was influenced by living in New York City s Harlem, where his
literary works helped shape American literature and politics. Hughes strong sense of racial pride
helped him promote equality, celebrate African
American culture, and condemn racism through his poetry, novels, plays, essays, and children s books
(America s Library). Hughes is referred to as a literary phenomenon. He was one of the first African
American men of literature who was determined to make a productive and profitable career out of his
writing. The historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his teachers introduced him to Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman s poetry, who stood out as
Hughes primary influences. Hughes graduated from high school in 1920 and spent the following year
in Mexico with his father. Around this time, Hughes s poem
The Negro Speaks of Rivers was published in The Crisis magazine and was highly praised (The
Biography Channel). In 1921, Hughes enrolled at Columbia University where he studied briefly, and
during this time he quickly became a part of the Harlem Renaissance. Four years later, he was
working as a busboy in a Washington, D.C. hotel restaurant when he met an
American poet Vachel Lindsay. Hughes showed some of his poems to Lindsay, who used his
connections to promote Hughes s poetry and bring it towards a wider audience.
Hughes s poem, The Weary Blues won first prize in the Opportunity magazine literary competition.
While studying at Lincoln, Hughes poetry came to the attention of novelist and critic Carl Van
Vechten, who used his connections to help get Hughes s first book of poetry, The Weary Blues ,
published by Knopf in 1926. Hughes was also among the first to use jazz rhythms and dialect to depict
the life of urban blacks in his work (The
Biography Channel). During the 1930s he continued to write and publish poetry and prose during this
time, and in 1934 he published his first collection of short stories, The Ways

Federal Marketing Order On Tart Cherries
With recent controversy over the Federal Marketing Order on Tart Cherries, some feel it should be
changed or eliminated. The topic has gone viral from a Facebook post generating an astonishing
40,000 shares. The farmer, who was outraged with the order, made it seem as though he had to destroy
the oversupply of cherries. Was this even the case? Did he falsify his information? One thing that s an
obvious fact is that the importation of foreign cherries needs to be regulated, especially if domestic
cherries continue to be.
With the recent controversy over the Federal Marketing Order an article has been written by Jennifer
Kiel, an editor for www.FarmProgress.com it explains the difficulties of farming. She has written
numerous articles in relation to the Cherry industry. Therefore, she has a keen sense for the topic. The
publisher is News Watch; the genre is an article within a magazine. The intended audience is farmers,
processors, and general public. The main point is the problem is what is wrong with the cherry
industry. She explains the difficulties of farmers and how many don t want to go into farming in the
future. The purpose is to inform. The main reasons why she wants to inform the reader is so reader can
understand the struggle of modern day cherry farms. The evidence she used is a first account
viewpoint of a farmer and he explained how hard it has become. He talks about the restriction and the
pros/cons of it. She explains viewpoints of both sides of the

Effects Of The Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow laws has had a major influence on the United States based on how much harm than
good it did during its time. The Jim Crow laws were in favor of white people more than black, in state
and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. This in turn caused more harm
than good because black people had so many restrictions on what the can do while living in the US.
The Jim Crow laws were based on segregation of public schools, public places, and public
transportation, and the segregation of restrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains for whites and
blacks. The U.S. military was also segregated. The Jim Crow laws caused white to feel superior to
black while black thought they were inferior.
African Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These laws had a lot of impact on people sociologically because the government would not believe
them no matter what the case was. They saw all black people as inferior during this time and would
stay the same as time went on.
Segregation between white and black people during the 1890 s was a sad time for most black people
because they could not eat at the same restaurants, use the same railroads or bus stations or even
restrooms. Black people were, restricted to only using what was available to them and nothing else. As
time went on the Democratic Party played a part in the evolution of The Jim Crow laws. During the
1940 s black people was no threat to white Virginians mainly because they were disfranchised by the
new state constitution in 1902. By having this new constitution in place horrible acts such as lynchings
became a means of keeping blacks in their place. The Democratic Party during this time caused more
harm than good instead of helping black people succeed they instead try to keep them tied down.
But when the twenties and eventually the thirties came around most white southerners did not want to
adapt to the changes that were going on at the time. Under the Jim Crow laws most white people
thought at the time that they would eventually get attacked from within or even without. Which was a
huge problem to them, they wanted to keep control of blacks because they saw

Trigger Point Of Muscle Demographics
Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots, are described as hyperirritable spots in
skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber. These very
localized areas in muscle tissues and/or their tendinous attachments are often felt as taut bands when
palpated, which elicits pain. A trigger point is a very circumscribed region in which relatively few
motor units seem to be contracting. So it is localized spot of tenderness in a nodule of a palpable taut
band of contractured muscle fibers The exact nature of a trigger point is not known. It has been
suggested that certain nerve endings in the muscle tissues may become sensitized by algogenic
substances that create a localized zone of hypersensitivity

Cruel And Unusual Punishment Essay
Cruel and Unusual Punishment, according to merriam webster.com, is a punishment that is very harsh
and too severe for the crime. The Eighth Amendment prohibits the federal government from imposing

should not be too severe. There are nineteen states without the death penalty, while thirty one that still

The Importance Of Freedom In Journalism And The Freedom Of...
As Americans, we are taught from childhood to internalize the importance of freedom and to sing the
praises of the land of the free. Political rallies, presidential speeches, and Internet forums light up day
after day with fierce debates over freedom of speech or religion or the right to bear arms, but one
freedom most of us fail to prioritize as we should is one unique to developed countries yet absolutely
crucial of a true democracy: freedom of the press.
Journalists expose government corruption, systemic and societal injustices, business malpractices,
human rights violations, and more truths that government and businesses would rather hide. Despite
efforts to keep certain acts under wraps, it is imperative that citizens understand all motives and
beliefs of those in power in order to be fully informed when fulfilling their civic duties of voting and
partaking in political discourse. That is the media s job, yet we are entering an era where popular
opinion of the media is ever declining and leaders encourage silencing the free press that brings to
light these pivotal issues. In my future, I hope to use a Bachelor s or Master s degrees in Journalism
and Political Science to reestablish the currently wavering honesty and integrity in some areas of
journalism that contribute to dangerous anti media ideas. We need to protect our democracy by
demanding honesty and transparency in government and big business, but this goal can never be
achieved if our society responds to

The Importance Of Curfew Laws In Baltimore
Law enforcers and city officials in Baltimore are cracking down on the curfew for children in their
city. Recent events such as a 3 year old being killed by a stray bullet make law enforcers believe that
having a curfew can help to protect innocent children from misfortunate events. The new curfew states
that children younger than 14 must be inside by nine o clock, while 14 16 year olds have to be home
by ten o clock on school nights. On weekends and summer nights 14 16 year olds can be out until
eleven o clock.
Some parents of teenagers are glad that a new curfew is being put in place; however, not every person
feels the same way. For example, the American Civil Liberties Union believes that the curfew might
cause an increase in juvenile criminals due to rebellions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teenager in me says, No. The considerate human in me who wants to prevent drugs and alcohol in
children says, Yes. When I really consider this, and place myself in a teenager s shoes in Baltimore, I
am still undecided. Based on my personal experience, which is minimal, I don t believe a curfew is
going to help many of the children or parents in Baltimore. Therefore, I don t believe this policy will
be worthwhile. The curfew might help one or two kids seek proper help; however I find it hard to
imagine that one policy setting a curfew can fix adolescent behavior. If the people in Baltimore are
willing to put in the time and money of following through with this policy to help just a handful of
children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are expecting massive results, this
policy should be revised. The children who could receive better futures because of this policy are the
people who should get to decide if they want it or not, but the people who should have the most say in
the matter are the ones with the smallest voices of

Nymph Callisto Analysis
This visual description is of the oil painting by Frenchman François Boucher Jupiter in Guise of Diana
and the Nymph Callisto dated 1759 is an oil painting 57.79 × 69.85 cm (22.8 × 27.5 in) on canvas,
which hangs in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. The focal point of this
work is the two voluptuous female figures in the center of the bottom half of the canvas. The women
appear to be gentle lovers, gazing each into the others eyes; their expressions are soft and loving, and
their bodies relaxed. Their lightly toned skin colored with a subtle pink flush along with their curvy
bodies make the figures look and feel soft, beckons the viewer to reach out to touch them. Their
sensual appearance enhanced by the pale pink and ivory palette used to render their forms, so gently
blended the change in tone throughout the images no brushstrokes are visible.
Callisto, a beautiful fully nude young blond nymph reclines, across the lap of Jupiter, in the guise of
Diana, her right arm extended lazily across Diana s right forearm, her hand, holding an arrow, gently
touches an angelic putti. Tucked between their bodies is a satiny ivory white gown, atop a velvety
smoky blue dress and leopard skins. The detail of the pelt is so expertly rendered an observer wants to
stroke it, fine brushwork defines the fur, dark umber spots on golden ground.
Callisto s face gently tilts back over her right shoulder, her long blond, curly tresses pulled back and

Pros And Cons Of Re Enlisting
I m cold, I can t breath through the thick smoke, and a quarter of the men I went to war with are dead.
At Valley Forge we have extremely poor living conditions. 3,989 out of 8,000 soldiers are ill. I
decided to re enlist for three reasons which are honoring my country, helping the unfortunate soldiers,
and destroying Great Britain s tyranny.
February 1st, 1778, we are quartered at Valley forge located 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Just a
year ago we declared independence from Britain, our first true act of rebellion. Other men have
decided to desert or leave us, therefore we don t have as many people to help us through the war. I
made the decision to stay and fight with the Continental Army, we ve been through too much to quit ...

From December June 1,800 to 2,500 soldiers died from illness (Busch 147). I saw a chart in the main
quarters of death due to illness, correspondingly this really made me realize how lucky I am to be
alive. The army which has been surprisingly healthy hitherto now begins to grow sickly (Waldo 151).
Even though about a quarter of our men are dead, some soldiers have beat the sickness (Busch 147). I
believe if I got this far I am meant to stay. The thought of going back home and seeing my family
makes the idea of quitting alluring, but I believe that god put me here for a reason and wants me to
stay and help the fallen soldiers. I wish myself at home and I m starving (Waldo 151). Dr. Waldo is
always complaining about his living conditions, how torn his clothes are, and how hungry he is.
Soldiers have to live through all of those conditions all of the time of top of being weak and sick,
therefore they have it worse than me. This reason is causing me to re enlist because I am healthy
enough to help them recover and it would be immensely selfish to leave them behind. We need to stay
because there are soldiers not as fortunate as us and they need our help because they are to sick to help

Importance of Control in Business Organizations.

Taj follows the four steps in the control process: establishing performance standards, measuring actual
performance, comparing measured performance against established standards, and taking corrective

Step 2: Measure Actual Performance. Supervisors collect data to measure actual performance to
determine variation from standard. Written data might include time cards, production tallies,
inspection reports, and sales tickets. Personal observation, statistical reports, oral reports and written
reports can be used to measure performance. Management by walking around, or observation of
employees working, provides unfiltered information, extensive coverage, and the ability to read
between the lines. While providing insight, this method might be misinterpreted by employees as
mistrust. Oral reports allow for fast and extensive feedback.
In Taj computers give supervisors direct access to real time, unaltered data, and information. On line
systems enable supervisors to identify problems as they occur. Database programs allow supervisors
to query, spend less time gathering facts, and be less dependent on other people. Supervisors have
access to information at their fingertips. Employees can supply progress reports through the use of
networks and electronic mail. Statistical reports are easy to visualize and effective at demonstrating
relationships. Written reports provide comprehensive feedback that can be easily filed and referenced.
Computers are important tools for measuring performance. In fact, many operating processes depend

Samoan Tatau s and My Culture
In our world today, Tattoo is a form of art displayed on the skin. In many countries, tattoos symbolize
different meanings, but in America, tattoo has lost its true meaning and is being performed on a daily
basis. In our society today, tattoos are becoming more of a trend. For instance, people are getting
flowers such as a rose being a popular one, tattooed on them. Currently nowadays, people are getting
anything tattooed that interests them and it is losing its significance. Back in Samoa, a small little
cultural country, traditional Samoan Tattoos are something that are considered sacred and have true
meaning behind it. The artwork and designs go beyond being skin deep. In every Samoan tattoo, there
are history and deep meanings behind each and every one. It takes a lot of hard work to earn in order
in having the honors to receive the Samoan tattoo. Not only is the Samoan Tattoo a form of beautiful
art, but it also resembles respect, loyalty, honor, community, and the growth of accomplishment in a
person. It is not like in America where getting a tattoo done is easy and your own decision, the
Samoan culture takes a lot of pride and courage into doing so.
The word Tattoo is believed to have originally come from the Samoan word Tatau . The Samoan word
for tattoo came from the Polynesian language, and the word tatau originates from the tapping sounds
of the tool made during tattooing (U.S National Park). The origins of the Samoan tatau have been

The Imperfection Of The Greek Parthenon
The Athenian Greeks at the height of their power built a temple called the Parthenon which was a
monument to their core values of perfectionism, humanism, and rationalism. It is important to
understand that the human eye has imperfections which deceive the mind, so one can understand the
unique steps that were taken to achieve the illusion of perfection to the human eye. The Greeks loved
perfection, and as seen in the Parthenon, the Greek architects purposely made the Parthenon imperfect
to account for the imperfections in the human eye. This was done so that when one views the
Parthenon with the naked eye, it appears to be perfectly symmetrical, straight, and proportional. The
entire Parthenon does not have a single right angle. An example of the Greeks compensating for the
imperfections of the human eye is seen in the base of the Parthenon, which from a picture or in real
life looks perfectly straight, but in reality it is actually curved slightly upward. It is curved because the
Greeks knew that if you have a perfectly flat base for a building, it appears curved to the human eye.
To account for that, the Greeks made it so that the base was already curved. The Greeks also curved
the columns of the Parthenon inward, because if the columns were straight, it would appear to be
curving outward. Again, the Greeks knew about how the human eye deceives the mind, and decided
that they must trick the eye to please the mind. This was all done because the Greeks strived for

Alberta Oil Sand Analysis
Oil has become extremely vital in our society, so vital that it has affected developed and developing
countries. It is a massive contributor to economic growth as well as environmental destruction. The

Canada stays as an economic power. The economical, cultural, and political benefits the oil sands give

contributor to their economic activity for many years. The oil industry has led to benefits for other
industries such as business services, manufacturing, retail, finance and insurance. The impacts of the
oil sands economically can also be seen in the national employment rates and statistics. People are
immigrating from countries outside of Canada and other regions of Canada to move to Alberta in

Effect Of Power Quality On A Smooth Industrial Process
Abstract As industries expand, utilities become more interconnected and the use of electricity rises,
power quality becomes essential to insure a smooth industrial process. The main problem that severely
affects the power s quality is the presence of the harmonics, which affects the performance of the

The U5MR is a good health indicator because it is less susceptible to fallacy than other indicators such
as gross national income per capita because even if families differ in a income by 1000 fold, their
child will not have 1000 fold difference in survival (UNICEF, n.d.). Estimating U5MR through
country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality
obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). Thus, the U5MR is a solid indicator of health, and is best
measured through personal surveys.
The United Nations set quantitative sustainable development goals to reduce child mortality by 2030.
The UN proposes ending all preventable deaths of newborns, and achieving a neonatal mortality rate
of at or below 12 per 1000 live births, and an Under five mortality of 25 per 1000 live births (Health
United Nations Sustainable Development, n.d.). For some countries in Sub Saharan Africa, reaching
this goal will require more than halving their current child mortality rate.
Risk Factors for Child Mortality In 99 low and middle income countries surveyed, under five
mortality was twice as high in the poorest households when compared with the wealthiest households,
thus the burden of child death is greater for poorer families (UN IGME, 2017). A study using pooled
DHS data from multiple countries found that variables most highly correlated with under five
mortality at the national level, ranked in descending order, included; income,

relationships is prominent in both the Inanna and the Symposium. Both texts contain examples of
intimate relationships that lead to significant effects on the power of those in the relationship. The
Inanna and the Symposium both illustrate that love is the greatest possible catalyst for the attainment
of power. Love provides individuals with attributes that in turn increase their power. This is illustrated
through the courtship of Dumuzi and Inanna and through the speeches regarding love and the
apprentice relationships that are found in the Symposium. Inanna s rise from a helpless girl to a
powerful goddess is chronicled through the Inanna. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
52). Inanna never thought about traveling to the dangerous gates of the underworld before she gained
her power. Her rise in power and dominance is notable when comparing her bold decisions as a
goddess to her helpless behavior from the beginning of the text. Inanna s drastic gain in dominance is
linked to her love life because it occurs directly after her courtship with Dumuzi. Before marrying
Dumuzi, Inanna is still very needy and asks her brother Utu who will weave her bridal sheets for her
and who will bleach them for her (pg. 31). Although Inanna is at first hesitant to marrying Dumuzi,
once they are together, Inanna s sense of dominance and power increases. One example of her
increased dominance is the instance when Inanna calls Dumuzi to bed instead of the other way around,
saying The bed is ready! ...The bed is waiting! (pg. 42). This instance of Inanna s dominance is
significant in relation to her power because it occurs in a Sumerian text where a patriarchal society
was prevalent and a woman calling a man to bed would be considered taboo. Inanna s newly found
dominance after entering marriage and

Essay On Didone
A BRIEF HISTORY OF TYPE
Part Four: Modern (Didone)
In the previous installment of this series, we took a closer look at Transitional style typefaces, so
called because they mark a transition from the former Old Style types epitomized by Baskerville and
the subject of today s brief history, the Moderns, also known as Didone (the terms Modern and Didone
are used synonymously throughout this article).
Baskerville s types, compared with their Old Style (or Garalde) predecessors, are marked by high
contrast between thick and thin strokes, so much so that one commentator declared Baskerville was
blinding the nation. The Moderns or Didones take this contrast to further extremes (just about as far as
one can take them).

And here are some other notable Moderns: ITC Fenice (I m not a fan of this one), ITC Zapf Book,
Adobe New Caledonia (actually pretty good for extended text), ITC Bodoni*, and Günter Gerhard

Well, I ve only just scratched the surface, but I hope that this has given you a taste of the Moderns. In

True Happiness Depicted In Voltaire s Candide
Utopia is nowhere. Not in ignorant bliss, nor in gold covered valleys. True happiness is in simplicity.
This is what s presented in Candide, the short picaresque novel by Voltaire. In this novel of many
misadventures, the characters are moved from the finest of settings to the most realistic and darkest of
situations. In the end after encountering all sorts of diverse conflicts, it is in the most basic of places
that the main characters find their true calling and peace. After witnessing and experiencing
unimaginable injustices, Candide and his guide, Cacambo, give up in desperation and throw
themselves into Canoes. They give up to the current which thrusts them towards nowhere.

El Salvador s Impact On The United States
The area that is currently El Salvador was originally comprised of 3 vast indigenous states and various
territories. The Pipils, indigenous occupants who settled in present day Mexico, are a nomadic people
that originated from Nahua. The Lencas settled and represented the eastern district while the Mayan
the Chortis occupied the North zone of the Lempa Hi River.
In 1524, Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado neglected to seize area in light of the Pipil warriors.
Be that as it may, in 1525 he returned and effectively vanquished the nation and named it El Salvador
which English translation means, The Savior . In 1811, the longings for freedom reverberated
throughout the country, yet was quickly pounded by the troops sent by neighboring country
Guatemala. In 1821, El Salvador and other Central American nations declared independence from
Spain and were joined to Mexico the following year, however El Salvador opposed the union. The
nation turned into an autonomous republic in 1838 after the Central American coalition separated.

El Salvador is the least expansive nation in Central America and is no bigger than the state of
Massachusetts. This precipitous nation is flanked by the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, and Honduras.

How Does Joseph Conrad Dehumanize
A white man named Marlow travels to the Congo during the time of The Scramble for Africa. He
describes what he sees and his perception of Africans. He describes their appearance and actions. They
are characterized as savages and are not seen as part of the human race. Joseph Conrad, the author of
Heart Of Darkness is denounced for his racist remarks and dehumanizing aspect throughout this story.
Although Conrad makes racist statements, it is relevant to the time period in which the story took
place in. During this time period, the Belgians were imperializing Africa and taking its riches
resources. However, the Africans were seen as slaves due to the fact that they were subjugated. The
problem with this is that this one image of Africa in history

The Death Of The Winter Formal
It was late on a Friday night, just an hour before nine, which would mark the start of Northride High s
Winter Formal. While most students and chaperones were already arriving early, very few still
lingered at home; and only one hadn t wanted to go at all.
Teague, honey? Are you sure you don t want to go? I m certain all your friends will be there too, and
they d be very disappointed if you didn t join them. An anxious mother stood at the base of the stairs,
calling up to her sixteen year old son on the upper floor. Her husband brushed past her with a photo
frame, moving to hang it up while saying,
There s no point in bothering him, Samantha, you know he s not going to do something he doesn t

He closes his eyes, a soft smile curving his lips; as if he were experiencing a pleasant sort of feeling,
personal to only himself. He didn t want to go to the Winter Formal simply because he was a busy
person who had complicated plans. They were loosely thought out ideas, so Teague thought them
more as sketches really; because, as he has read so often, even the most thoroughly formed and built
plans often went awry. So, he would try to compromise with what he had already. He was overjoyed
that his parents wouldn t be home for four hours at most, giving him plenty of time to sneak out of the
house unnoticed and into the backcountry woods around their small town. He knew basically everyone
would be at this stupid dance of his school s, so he wasn t too concerned about any obstacles.
He sat up and scootched to the edge of his bed, sighing deeply as he considered the course of actions
to come. To say the very least, he was excited, though nervous at the same time. It was a very
unpleasant mixture of feelings that didn t boil over well in his stomach, but he supposed he had to
suck it up and muster what he d been praying to do since the end of Summer, when school had started.
Getting up now, he maneuvered to his closet and pulled out his jacket, putting it on when suddenly he
had caught a folder of papers in his peripheral vision.
Ah! I can t forget this, says Teague, taking the folder in his left hand while he searched around for his
bag with his right. Obviously he

Communism During The Vietnam War
The penultimate step in my studies was to conduct an interview with my mother and grandmother.
During Thanksgiving Break, my mother held responsibility for my grandparents whilst my relatives
were out of town; I took the opportunity to interview them. Before I began, I established a plan with
two vital goals to meet: to understand if the Khmer Rouge breached any international, human rights
laws, and to get confirmation of known facts found in the novels or article. I brought several essential
objects to assist with the interview such as a voice recorder on my phone to capture every word said, a

However, my mother at the time was only sixteen and the media in Vietnam was primarily

China. After a while, my mother stated that Vietnam needed to protect themselves from the two
countries; Cambodia was unquestionably the aggressor while China aided them. As a result, they need
the ally to at least put the conflict to a stalemate. However, my mom added that Vietnam had a strong
relationship with China; both nations only went to warfare years later due to both countries making a
deal. The deal was that Vietnam would give their Islands to China and China would aid them in the
Vietnam War. The issue was that Vietnam refused to transfer island sovereignty over; causing China to
side with Cambodia to fight Vietnam. I then asked what happened to Cambodia s king and their
former prime ministers. After my mother and grandmother debated the question, they explained the
complex situation. Both Vietnam and China strived to establish separate governments; Vietnam
selected Heng Samrin to lead the newly established country. China on the other hand demanded of
King Sihanouk, former Prime Minister Son Sann, and former Prime Minister Khieu Samphan to

Current Status of the Electronic Health Records in the...
For years now, the healthcare system in the United States have managed patient s health records
through paper charting, this has since changed for the better with the introduction of an electronic
medical record (EMR) system. This type of system has helped healthcare providers, hospitals and
other ambulatory institutions extract data from a patient s chart to help expedite clinical diagnosis and
providing necessary care. Although this form of technology shows great promise, studies have shown
that this system is just a foundation to the next evolution of health technology. The transformation of
EMR to electronic heath record system (EHR) is the ultimate goal of the federal government.
Adoption of Meaningful Use in Today s Healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently only 4.4% of hospital meet a majority of the fourteen core measures of meaningful use (pg.
122). With such a slow progression to adopt an EHR system, government groups such as CMS have
been encouraged by the government to provide financial incentives to providers who adopt the
meaningful use requirements via EHR and those who fail to adopt may face penalties like the
reduction of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements (Hebda Czar, 2013, p.281). Benefits to EHR
over Paper charting One of the primary reasons that the electronic health system exist is to allow
universal access to a health records by all healthcare professionals providing care to a particular
patient. In a society with a vastly growing population with increasing comorbidities and demands for
sooner diagnoses; the role of the paper charting no longer meets the demands of today s healthcare
system. If for example a patient with a history of Type II diabetes was admitted to the ER, the
presence of his records through an EHR system can confirm that is he has had uncontrolled diabetes
for some years now and fast interventions can be initiated to provide optimal care. This system
provides an updated and accurate snapshot of a patient s health history, most importantly this type of
communication is a key element in emergent situations when a patient finds themselves

Baseball Is A Man s Sport
In this world there are many things that are similar in some ways, but are completely different in
others. In the world of sports there are in most cases a men s version of a sport, and a women s version
of a sport, like fastpitch softball and baseball. Softball and baseball are similar sports, both use the
same items to do the same job. Each individual player uses a ball, glove, helmet, bat, and cleats to
accomplish the goals to play the games of softball and baseball. The goals are to have more runs than
the other team at the end of the game. However, these two sports are not exactly alike like many
spectators suspect they are.
The main difference in softball and baseball are the players. Generally, baseball is a man s sport with
the rare exception of women playing. However, girls usually stop playing baseball when they grow
older because girls cannot play in the MLB. Therefore, they go to the next closest thing to baseball
which is softball.
When it comes to pitching in softball and baseball one should be able to spot the difference
automatically. In baseball the pitchers throw the baseball over hand while in softball the pitchers
throw the softball underhand. Since softball players throw softballs underhand there is a difference in
the pitching rules compared to baseball. Softball players do not have a rule on how many innings they
are allowed to throw, while baseball has a strict limit on how many pitches or innings they are allowed
to throw. Baseball counts the

The Awakening Reflection
In Kate Chopin s The Awakening, the protagonist Edna Pontellier learns to think of herself as an
autonomous human being and rebels against social norms by leaving her husband Leónce and having
an affair. The first half of the novel takes place in Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana.
Over the summer it is inhabited by upper class Creole families from New Orleans who go there to
escape from the heat and to relax by the ocean. During the week, the women and children stay on the
island, while the men return to the city to work.
During the summer, Edna Pontellier meets a young gallant named Robert Lebrun, whose mother rents
out the cottages on the island. The two spend almost all their time together, and Edna greatly enjoys
his company, especially since her husband is generally preoccupied with business. Due to Robert s
constant presence, Edna starts to experience a change within herself: she begins to develop a sense of
herself as a whole person, with unique wants, interests, and desires. She realizes that she is not content
to be simply a wife and a mother, and she begins to assert herself to her husband.
Edna s moments of self discovery are closely tied to the ocean. At her great moment of awakening,
she suddenly learns how to swim, after being frustrated in her efforts before. She and Robert also
spend a lot of time in and near the ocean. One day they take a spontaneous day trip to another island in
a boat, and Edna undergoes a metaphorical rebirth when she falls

The innovative pods called k cups have turned the world of coffee brewing upside down. A company

Ode To A Grecian Urn By John Keats Essay
The Romantic Sentiments of Ode to a Grecian Urn. Employing the poetic style of ekphrasis, John
Keats uses his poem Ode to a Grecian Urn to study a separate work of art. Keats narrates the poem
from the perspective of one carefully studying a vase while pondering the depictions of nature, love,
and religious rites on its surface. His observations lead to to remark on the everlasting nature of
emotions evoked by the urn, as well as the beauty of the images it induces in one who would observe
it. These musings throughout the poem offer a strong indication of Romantic view which Keats held.
Romanticism placed a heavy emphasis on the importance of emotion as a source of true art and the
value of imagination. Keats description in Ode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in the image is All breathing human passion far above, / that leaves a heart high sorrowful and cloy d,

negative consequences, from heartbreak to longing due to separation. However, in this single image,
frozen in time, these could never exist. Instead the single, cheerful atmosphere will perpetually
remain, and from it Keats is able to grow a larger scene with the two lovers. Beyond just notions of
love, Keats extends the same logic of the perpetuated emotions to other sentiments. Frequently, a
sense of intrigue or uncertainty is maintained within the poem. All throughout, Keats poses many
rhetorical questions. In examining one scene he asks What men or gods are these? What maidens loth?
(8). Although from following questions a general picture can be formed of men pursuing women in a
wild ecstacy (10), a dominating uncertainty remains. Later, when studying a portrayal of a sacrifice of

to think I know what the main purpose of reading it s to comprehend, interpret data and ideals. On the
first page of this chapter I notice there are kids reading a newspaper, the level of interested and overall
engagement is quite appealing and gives me, the reader something forward to. Often when I assign
reading I make it a practice to have the students do closed reading where there is constant dialogue
and discussion going over topics that play an important role on how my students are perceiving the
information or how they are integrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kids was very invested in the reading he had in in class, where he learned and read about a
slaughter house. This is not how I would like to be interrupt while eating my lunch but it defiantly
goes down as a memorable occurrence in that woman s life as she encountered with the young man.
To think it all started with a class reading assignment, Michael and Antonio were students at Best
Practice High School (BPHS), these students were very engaged through their process of learning
about nutrition and how the body takes, uses and said food in general. The kids seem to really be taken
with the fast food article and called for its immediate attention to anyone who would listen, this is the
difference in where the students took their comprehension of what they were reading. This kids acted
in the chapter, they made flyers to handout, caused a commotion in a local fast food restaurant and
even wrote their representative. Per the text the school specialized in making sure all the kids knew to
visualize ideas and situations in the text, make connection with their own knowledge, notice and ask
questions, draw inferences, evaluate, summarize and synthesize information. Was all those thinking
strategies the foundation for the student s effort to rise and act. I believe that this was the case for

The, The Former Capital Of China
Nanjing is the former capital of China. During this time, Japan was attempting to take over the entire
nation of China. Japan had developed a plan to take over all of China in a span of just three months,
starting with the invasion of Beijing. What the Japanese weren t expecting was for China to put down
a fight. With frustration arising and their plan falling apart, the Japanese decided to take over China s
capital, Nanjing. During the Battle of Shangai, Japanese army forces proved their dominance over the
Chinese and took over in November. Following the Japanses victory at Shangai, 50,000 Japanese
soldiers began their march to China s capital: Nanking. Although the Japanese were greatly
outnumbered, they fought to the death, entering the city on December 13, 1937. They were ordered to
kill all captives, leading to 90,000 Chinese soldiers surrendering (The History Place, 2000).
Japan s history leading up to the massacre is an intriguing one. Unfriendly relations between Japan
and China had an uprising in the early 1900 s. Before this rivalry began, Japan, growing as a military
power, had intentions of taking over China and Korea. In 1876, Japan and Korea signed the Treaty of
Kanghwa, making Korea unilaterally independent, weakening China s hold on Korea. March of 1894,
a domestic rebellion by the anti foreigner Tonghak cult against the Korean monarchy was jointly put
down by both Japanese and Chinese troops. After the revolt was quelled, China proposed the

Descriptive Essay On Be Brave
Be Brave
I could feel my heart pounding through my chest as I peered over the waterfall. My feet had cuts from
standing on the sharp rocks. The lush green trees surrounded me. Water rushed off the edge
plummeting thirty feet to the ground. The Screams of people throwing themselves off is unforgettable.
I could feel the stream tugging at my feet and pulling me close to the edge. The smell of the sea can be
found anywhere on the island. Wind coming from the ocean gave me chills. Listening to the peaceful
sounds of the waves crashing on the shore miles away helped me relax. The problem is the only way
down is to jump. That feeling I get when my stomach drops is one of my favorite; or the thrill of doing
something crazy. My mom told me we were driving on the road to Hana, and I knew I had to find
something exciting. Luckily for us we came upon a pool with a beaming waterfall pouring into it. The
forest was full of life and lush trees. It looked like a painting or something out of a dream. Everything
was perfect about this place. Walking onto the top of the waterfall I knew this had to be the place I
was telling myself to jump but my legs wouldn t move. Stuck there I knew I was terrified. The entire
time I was telling myself I was brave enough to jump, but in reality my mind was buzzing with
worries. I took a deep breath and wandered closer to the edge. As I looked over the cliff I saw the
pounding water hit the pool. I took a step back and didn t think I could do it. I looked

Initial Counseling
Date of Counseling: 17 October 2011 Subject: Initial counseling For: SGT Pereyra, Francisco J. 6.
You are overall responsible for the accountability of your soldiers. I believe that soldiers should work
smart and hard during the normal duty day so that we can maximize time off and maintain normal
work hours. However, mission will at times dictate weekends or late nights upon approval from the
Battalion Commander. We can avoid self inflicted problems by keeping track of appointments, breaks,
and other situations that interfere with the mission. Remember soldiers take the initiative when the
example is set. All appointments will be brought to my attention at least 2 days prior, emergencies are
understood but they should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10. During this counseling session we have reviewed the working copy of your NCOER to include the
rating chain, duty description, and examples of achievements that would constitute an excellent rating

I have also directed you to maintain a folder containing your achievements. You will bring this folder
to our counseling sessions. I expect you to place copies of awards, letters, certificates, or any other
positive information/event, (being coined, receiving external praise, by name mention during
inspections) in this folder. Maintaining this folder will assist me in preparing a fair and accurate
report. It also provides you a method of input into your evaluation report. 12. I would like you to take
this opportunity to provide me with any comments concerning your reception/integration in the unit
and any other areas or issues that you would like to surface at this time. Please make your comments
in the space provided or on a separate sheet of paper. If on a separate sheet of paper please indicate

Essay on The Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes Langston Hughes was one of the most important writers and thinkers of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s, which was the first major movement of African American life and culture. Hughes was influenced by living in New York City s Harlem, where his literary works helped shape American literature and politics. Hughes strong sense of racial pride helped him promote equality, celebrate African American culture, and condemn racism through his poetry, novels, plays, essays, and children s books (America s Library). Hughes showed some of his poems to Lindsay, who used his connections to promote Hughes s poetry and bring it towards a wider audience. Hughes s poem, The Weary Blues won first prize in the Opportunity magazine literary competition. While studying at Lincoln, Hughes poetry came to the attention of novelist and critic Carl Van Vechten, who used his connections to help get Hughes s first book of poetry, The Weary Blues , published by Knopf in 1926. Hughes was also among the first to use jazz rhythms and dialect to depict the life of urban blacks in his work (The Biography Channel). The Jim Crow laws were in favor of white people more than black, in state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. Black people were, restricted to only using what was available to them and nothing else. As time went on the Democratic Party played a part in the evolution of The Jim Crow laws. During the 1940 s black people was no threat to white Virginians mainly because they were disfranchised by the new state constitution in 1902. By having this new constitution in place horrible acts such as lynchings became a means of keeping blacks in their place. The Democratic Party during this time caused more harm than good instead of helping black people succeed they instead try to keep them tied down. Trigger Point Of Muscle Demographics Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots, are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber. A trigger point is a very circumscribed region in which relatively few motor units seem to be contracting. • 7. The Importance Of Freedom In Journalism And The Freedom Of... As Americans, we are taught from childhood to internalize the importance of freedom and to sing the praises of the land of the free. Political rallies, presidential speeches, and Internet forums light up day after day with fierce debates over freedom of speech or religion or the right to bear arms, but one freedom most of us fail to prioritize as we should is one unique to developed countries yet absolutely crucial of a true democracy: freedom of the press. Journalists expose government corruption, systemic and societal injustices, business malpractices, human rights violations, and more truths that government and businesses would rather hide. Despite efforts to keep certain acts under wraps, it is imperative that citizens understand all motives and beliefs of those in power in order to be fully informed when fulfilling their civic duties of voting and partaking in political discourse. That is the media s job, yet we are entering an era where popular opinion of the media is ever declining and leaders encourage silencing the free press that brings to light these pivotal issues. In my future, I hope to use a Bachelor s or Master s degrees in Journalism and Political Science to reestablish the currently wavering honesty and integrity in some areas of journalism that contribute to dangerous anti media ideas. We need to protect our democracy by demanding honesty and transparency in government and big business, but this goal can never be achieved if our society responds to ... If the people in Baltimore are willing to put in the time and money of following through with this policy to help just a handful of children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are expecting massive results, this policy should be revised. • 14. The Imperfection Of The Greek Parthenon The Athenian Greeks at the height of their power built a temple called the Parthenon which was a monument to their core values of perfectionism, humanism, and rationalism. It is important to understand that the human eye has imperfections which deceive the mind, so one can understand the unique steps that were taken to achieve the illusion of perfection to the human eye. The Greeks loved perfection, and as seen in the Parthenon, the Greek architects purposely made the Parthenon imperfect to account for the imperfections in the human eye. This was done so that when one views the Parthenon with the naked eye, it appears to be perfectly symmetrical, straight, and proportional. The entire Parthenon does not have a single right angle. An example of the Greeks compensating for the imperfections of the human eye is seen in the base of the Parthenon, which from a picture or in real life looks perfectly straight, but in reality it is actually curved slightly upward. It is curved because the Greeks knew that if you have a perfectly flat base for a building, it appears curved to the human eye. To account for that, the Greeks made it so that the base was already curved. The Greeks also curved the columns of the Parthenon inward, because if the columns were straight, it would appear to be curving outward. Again, the Greeks knew about how the human eye deceives the mind, and decided that they must trick the eye to please the mind. This was all done because the Greeks strived for ... Estimating U5MR through country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). Thus, the U5MR is a solid indicator of health, and is best measured through personal surveys. The United Nations set quantitative sustainable development goals to reduce child mortality by 2030. I m certain all your friends will be there too, and they d be very disappointed if you didn t join them. An anxious mother stood at the base of the stairs, calling up to her sixteen year old son on the upper floor. He closes his eyes, a soft smile curving his lips; as if he were experiencing a pleasant sort of feeling, personal to only himself. He didn t want to go to the Winter Formal simply because he was a busy person who had complicated plans. They were loosely thought out ideas, so Teague thought them more as sketches really; because, as he has read so often, even the most thoroughly formed and built plans often went awry. So, he would try to compromise with what he had already. He was overjoyed that his parents wouldn t be home for four hours at most, giving him plenty of time to sneak out of the house unnoticed and into the backcountry woods around their small town. He knew basically everyone would be at this stupid dance of his school s, so he wasn t too concerned about any obstacles. He sat up and scootched to the edge of his bed, sighing deeply as he considered the course of actions to come. To say the very least, he was excited, though nervous at the same time. It was a very unpleasant mixture of feelings that didn t boil over well in his stomach, but he supposed he had to suck it up and muster what he d been praying to do since the end of Summer, when school had started. Getting up now, he maneuvered to his closet and pulled out his jacket, putting it on when suddenly he had caught a folder of papers in his peripheral vision. Ah! As a result, they need the ally to at least put the conflict to a stalemate. However, my mom added that Vietnam had a strong relationship with China; both nations only went to warfare years later due to both countries making a deal. The deal was that Vietnam would give their Islands to China and China would aid them in the Vietnam War. The issue was that Vietnam refused to transfer island sovereignty over; causing China to side with Cambodia to fight Vietnam. I then asked what happened to Cambodia s king and their former prime ministers. After my mother and grandmother debated the question, they explained the complex situation. For years now, the healthcare system in the United States have managed patient s health records through paper charting, this has since changed for the better with the introduction of an electronic medical record (EMR) system. This type of system has helped healthcare providers, hospitals and other ambulatory institutions extract data from a patient s chart to help expedite clinical diagnosis and providing necessary care. Although this form of technology shows great promise, studies have shown that this system is just a foundation to the next evolution of health technology. The transformation of EMR to electronic heath record system (EHR) is the ultimate goal of the federal government. Adoption of Meaningful Use in Today s Healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently only 4.4% of hospital meet a majority of the fourteen core measures of meaningful use (pg. 122). Benefits to EHR over Paper charting One of the primary reasons that the electronic health system exist is to allow universal access to a health records by all healthcare professionals providing care to a particular patient. In a society with a vastly growing population with increasing comorbidities and demands for sooner diagnoses; the role of the paper charting no longer meets the demands of today s healthcare system. If for example a patient with a history of Type II diabetes was admitted to the ER, the presence of his records through an EHR system can confirm that is he has had uncontrolled diabetes for some years now and fast interventions can be initiated to provide optimal care. In the world of sports there are in most cases a men s version of a sport, and a women s version of a sport, like fastpitch softball and baseball. Softball and baseball are similar sports, both use the same items to do the same job. Each individual player uses a ball, glove, helmet, bat, and cleats to accomplish the goals to play the games of softball and baseball. The goals are to have more runs than the other team at the end of the game. However, these two sports are not exactly alike like many spectators suspect they are. The main difference in softball and baseball are the players. Generally, baseball is a man s sport with the rare exception of women playing. However, girls usually stop playing baseball when they grow older because girls cannot play in the MLB. Therefore, they go to the next closest thing to baseball which is softball. When it comes to pitching in softball and baseball one should be able to spot the difference automatically. In baseball the pitchers throw the baseball over hand while in softball the pitchers throw the softball underhand. Since softball players throw softballs underhand there is a difference in the pitching rules compared to baseball. Softball players do not have a rule on how many innings they are allowed to throw, while baseball has a strict limit on how many pitches or innings they are allowed to throw. Baseball counts the ... During the week, the women and children stay on the island, while the men return to the city to work. Employing the poetic style of ekphrasis, John Keats uses his poem Ode to a Grecian Urn to study a separate work of art. His observations lead to to remark on the everlasting nature of emotions evoked by the urn, as well as the beauty of the images it induces in one who would observe it. With human passion, there will always exist negative consequences, from heartbreak to longing due to separation. However, in this single image, frozen in time, these could never exist. Beyond just notions of love, Keats extends the same logic of the perpetuated emotions to other sentiments. Frequently, a sense of intrigue or uncertainty is maintained within the poem. All throughout, Keats poses many rhetorical questions. In examining one scene he asks What men or gods are these? What maidens loth? (8). Although from following questions a general picture can be formed of men pursuing women in a wild ecstacy (10), a dominating uncertainty remains. With frustration arising and their plan falling apart, the Japanese decided to take over China s capital, Nanjing. During the Battle of Shangai, Japanese army forces proved their dominance over the Chinese and took over in November. Following the Japanses victory at Shangai, 50,000 Japanese soldiers began their march to China s capital: Nanking.
